    “Can I help you?” Jimbei asks rather politely one day, though nerves still bleed into his tone.

    Law, staring at him from across the library, curled up between the arm of a couch and a napping Bepo sprawled on the other cushions, does not answer for a long moment. He does not startle at being caught either. In a manner acutely similar to a cat, he blinks slowly, predatory, and the silence between them turns taught. The dark circles under his eyes darken further as they narrow, something that is not quite anger overtaking his features. The book held in Jimbei’s webbed fingers trembles. He quickly shelves it before moving to the next one.

    “No,” Law finally answers, Jimbei’s back still turned to him. “You may not.”

    Or: Jimbei fishes Law out of the water.
