Summary
("Sokka" Zuko begins before he can change his mind. "Do you ever wish you didn't have to wake up in the morning?"
Sokka looks at him in a strange way, and Zuko immediately regrets opening his stupid mouth. The feeling is annoyingly familiar. He's spent the past half of this year saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, even when he's trying his best. Not that the twenty odd years before that have been any better.
"Like, I wish I didn't have to wake up because I wish I was dead?" Sokka asks, not taking his eyes off of Zuko, who's feeling like he has ten seconds to explain what he actually means before Sokka springs Katara on him again for mental healing.)
Zuko is the loneliest Firelord in the world. Left in the Fire Nation, he keeps (almost) getting assassinated left and right while the rest of his friends are out rebuilding the world.
He has Mai, of course. His girlfriend is there for him night and day, his biggest supporter on the council. And Sokka sends him weekly letters, telling him all about his life back home on the south pole. Reading them is the highlight of Zuko's week.
Mai is fine too, he supposes.

Summary
Shane scratched the back of his neck. “Rose, uh… she figured it out. Us. Our history. All of it.”
Ilya turned his head slowly, disbelieving. “Figured it out?”
“To be fair, you and I weren’t exactly subtle in Montreal,” Shane said, sheepishly.
Ilya huffed, scowling.
“So, she knows.” He swallowed. “Everything?”
“I mean, not all the gory details,” Shane said, shrugging. “But enough.”
There was a pause long enough for the surf to swell and retreat twice.
“And? What?” Ilya asked finally, jaw tight. “She is… disgusted?”
Shane actually snorted. “Uh. No.”
“No?”
“No,” Shane said again, dragging a hand down his face. Then, half-laughing, “She, um. She thinks it’s fucking hot.”
---------
Or, in essence, what if Rose clocks Shane and Ilya in Montreal, she's like, I want two boyfriends and I want the boyfriends to be boyfriends, too. God gave me two hands for a reason.

Summary
Zuko stands to leave, only to waver, swaying just a little. His blood pressure shifts, and Toph can feel what’s about to happen a moment before it does.
“Someone catch him! He’s gonna –“
With a crash, the dish tumbles from suddenly limp fingers, and Zuko crumples to the ground.
“…faint,” Toph finishes.
The Gaang’s journey to trusting Zuko is anything but smooth.

Summary
[Time passes oddly. Between one second and the next, Sokka has the Fire Lord pinned to the wall with his hands around the bastard’s throat. Golden eyes (one gold eye, his mind whispers) widen in shock.
“Sokka?” he chokes out. And then he smiles.
What the fuck?
“Sokka, I—”
Sokka slams his head against the wall, once, twice, and the smile wipes off his face. Good.
“What,” Sokka bites out, “have you done to my sister?”]
Or:
An injury leaves Sokka with amnesia. His last memory is of the failed invasion, of leaving his father behind in enemy territory on the Day of Black Sun. Of hopelessness. Rage.
But then he wakes up, and the war is over. Suddenly, he must come to terms with the fact that years have passed, and that he's somehow the Southern Water Tribe Ambassador to the Fire Nation. He is also supposedly friends with banished-Prince-turned-Fire-Lord Zuko, of all people. Close friends.
Yeah, nah.

“It’s pretty impressive that you know how to fight with weapons when you can bend fire,” Sokka says, and Zuko promptly drops both swords.
Okay, yeah, that was strange.
