Summary
Pony sniffs and wipes the tears from his eyes. He thinks for a moment. Darry probably went to Two-Bit’s to find him, and Soda definitely recruited Steve to help find them. Not like Steve’s place is safe anyway.
That leaves one place that they can go.
Or
Instead of the park, Pony and Johnny go to Dallas

Summary
The sun was beating down as Darry wiped the beads of sweat off his forehead. It was the hottest day on record in Tulsa—a whole 115 degrees—and Darry was standing on the roof of some soc’s house, helping bring up bundles of roofing.
There was two hours left in his shift and he wasn’t sure he was going to make it if the throbbing behind his right eye had anything to say about it.

Summary
Darry couldn’t help but pace the floor in the living room despite all the boys staring at him. He knew better than to let Ponyboy go to a movie by himself, he knew better, but he let him go anyway since it wasn’t a school night and Pony had been doing so well in his classes.

Summary
“You and Pony hate me.”
If the lightning that flashed through the window had hit Soda instead, it still wouldn’t have hurt him as much as those words do.
“Please don’t tell me you believe that, Darry. Tell me that’s not what you think!”
Darry always says it's no crime to be poor but when his paycheck's not enough, it sure feels like the world's punishing him. So he starts cutting back on meals. Surely if he can't even feed Pony and Soda, he doesn't deserve to eat, right?

Summary
His touch was light. Gentle. So gentle that Astarion felt like he might break open at the very core.
His palm was warm. Like the sun.
Astarion could have brushed him off so easily; Gale had made sure of it. Had probably anticipated it. Was that why Astarion didn’t want to?

Summary
Paul's face stares at him from the center of the page, his trademark toothy grin caught in a moment of reckless joy. Darry rolls his eyes, what great achievement has he accomplished now?
He glances up to the top of the page to see if this is the sports section or the general news. Maybe he got a scholarship, maybe he won a big game, could be either.
Tulsa World. Obituaries.
Another part of Darry's life is six feet under, but this one comes with its own terrible mix of emotions - anger, grief, guilt, so many others only Pony's books could describe. It feels like every piece of his past, the one where he was happy and free - is burning to the ground. Like death follows him.

Summary
This is my future, Darry thought, a cold lump in his throat. He fished his dad’s work boots from the closet. Found the worn gloves, pressed them to his nose and smelled leather and sweat. This was it, everything he was and could’ve been, reduced to the strength of his hands.
“Darry,” Soda said, with unfathomable optimism coating his tongue. “We’re gonna be okay.”

Summary
Darry couldn't stay in Tulsa anymore. Sooner or later someone would find out about him and Paul and he couldn't bare to think about how his family would react. That's why it's better that he left so that he could fade away in a big city like Chicago. It was a good plan too until he got a call from a social worker saying that his parents were dead and he was the one they were hoping be Ponyboy's and Soda's new guardian.
Soda didn't want to leave Tulsa. He left behind everything he had ever known only to move to Chicago to go live with the older brother that he'd rather forget about. And while his new job at the auto shop was nice, once he got home he could tell that there was something going on that no one was telling him.
Ponyboy never wanted to move to a big city and now he was there he had all the more reasons for why he wanted to move out into the country. However, there were a few reasons why he needed to stay for now. He still needed to get his degree, Soda was there with him, and there was boy with an angry scar on his cheek in one of Ponyboy's classes that he couldn't help but find intriguing.
