The man on the line let out a sigh, almost as though he was the one being troubled by this conversation… even though he had called Richie. “Well, I don’t usually believe in this sort of thing,” the man said firmly, which was a common conversation preface that Richie had heard from many clients who didn’t want to be seen as ‘crazy’. “But, recently, there have been… things going on in my house. I’ve tried to explain it, I-I’ve tried to convince myself that it’s just my imagination, but now, I…” The man took a long breath. “I think I’m being haunted.” The last part came out as almost a mumble, as though he was embarrassed to be saying it.
“Well, sir,” Richie said, “you’ve contacted the right person! I’ve dealt with all kinds of supernatural entities- from ghosts to ghouls, from goblins to zombies- you name it, I’ve taken care of it!”_____________

Eddie raised an eyebrow as he took a step closer. “You have a dessert emergency at…” He checked the time on his watch. “Eight-thirty-nine at night?”
“Yes,” the guy said. “Look, I have a very important event tomorrow. It’s my best friend’s little brother’s birthday party- he’s turning ten, so it’s kind of a big deal, you know? Anyways, I was in charge of the cake, and well, I guess there’s no good way to put it- but I completely forgot about the cake. But I can’t forget about the cake, because it’s the kid’s tenth fucking birthday, and I promised him the best cake in the world, and if I don’t deliver just that, his day will be ruined, and it will be my fault.” The guy paused to finally take a breath. He looked up at Eddie, and put on a desperate smile. “So, I need one cake, please and thank you.”
“We’re closed,” Eddie repeated.

Alright, maybe Richie did hate his job. But, to be fair, it wasn’t like his job treated him very well either. From the way he was more often than not loaded with more work than he could possibly get done in a single day, to how he was expected to spend more than his contractual hours in the office slaving away at his desk without any extra pay, to how his boss was always breathing down his neck and always seemed to have something to say about Richie’s clothes or his attitude or his work performance, even when Richie was trying his best. The salary wasn’t anything special either- it was fine, but nothing close to what Richie thought he deserved for putting up with everything that was thrown at him.
So maybe Richie did hate his job… but, there were some things that made staying worth it.
And one of those things was Eddie Kaspbrak.

Mike took a deep breath, preparing to launch into his story. “Over the past two weeks, five people have gone missing,” he said. “I couldn’t figure it out at first, there was no pattern to the disappearances. All of the victims were from different parts of town, different ages, both men and women, no connection to each other except for the fact that they all lived in Derry. I was starting to think that there was no connection at all, that maybe this wasn’t my kind of thing… until the first three bodies turned up- all of them completely drained of blood.”

“My name is Richie Tozier, I live in Derry, Maine, it’s December nineteenth, 1990, I just probably just became the laughing stock of the entire neighborhood because I thought that putting up Christmas lights in a damn snowstorm would be a good idea, and…” He forced himself to look the other man directly in the eyes for the first time. “And you’re Eddie Kaspbrak, my neighbour.”
Except, he wasn’t just ‘Eddie Kaspbrak, Richie’s neighbour’. He was Eddie Kaspbrak, Richie’s funny and helpful and sweet and ridiculously attractive neighbour. He was Eddie Kaspbrak… who Richie had slowly been developing a little (well, maybe not so little, he thought as his palms grew sweaty and the butterflies in his stomach went wild) crush on ever since Eddie had moved into the neighborhood three months earlier.
And now, Richie was lying on his couch.
