Summary
[originally published in To Hell + Back Anthology]
Dean Winchester is a professional soccer player on the verge of retirement. After this season's playoffs — win or lose — he'll have to say goodbye to his team and make the arduous move to the opposite coast... but it seems like a fair trade for some measure of anonymity and time with his new niece.
Castiel Novak, the team's assistant physiotherapist, has a few things to say before Dean leaves.

Summary
“Cas, you’re the one out front all the time; who’s to say those ladies ain’t thirsty for you?”
Cas had been on his feet all day. He collapsed into a chair. “I’m not gifted with charm, Dean. If anything, my lack of social skills are chasing customers away.”
Dean was guzzling water, leaning against the counter. He wiped his mouth and gave Cas a once-over. “You kidding? Ladies love the broody and mysterious schtick. I’d be here every day if I got to see you.”
There’d been no hesitation in Dean’s words. Cas bit down on a pleased smile. “Don’t tell me you’ve only been coming in to your own business to see me."
“Well, no, but waking up at 3AM is easier when I have a hot assistant.”
When Cas looked at him, surprised, Dean was looking away with a nervous swallow.

Summary
Dean scrubbed a hand over his face. “Jesus. I didn’t hit on you last night, did I?”
Cas paused.
“I hit on you?”
“You suggested we get married.”
It had been a sweet proposal, if a little silly: Sam had gone to the bathroom, and in his absence Dean had taken to staring open-mouthed at Cas’s profile. It was then that he’d asked, in all his drunken courage, “You ever think about marrying me, Cas? Swear I’d be good to you.”

Summary
Buck asks, "Where is your dad?"
"He's downstairs buying sodas," Christopher replies. He sits down next to Buck and points at the magazine. "Why are you reading Bridal Guide?"
"Oh." Buck flushes a little. It's not like he can explain: I realized I'm in love with your dad and keep accidentally planning a wedding we're never going to have. "It was this or Golf Digest."

Summary
Ravi follows Buck’s line of sight and jerks his head in Hen and Karen’s direction. “You ever wish you had that?”
“Had what?” Buck asks. “A wife?”
“Yeah, I guess. Or,” Ravi shrugs, twisting the shock blanket he’s supposed to be wrapped in between his hands. “Just someone to go home to.”
Buck rubs at his sternum as a sudden sharp pain shoots through it. “Yeah."

Summary
“Listen,” Buck says when the silence has stretched on too long to bear. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow, alright? Get some sleep.”
“Wait,” Eddie says before Buck can hang up. “Just – take me to bed with you.”
Buck pauses. “What?”
"Not – Jesus, not like that. I just meant – if it’s bothering you to be alone, then you don’t have to be.”
“Eddie,” Buck says, filled to the brim with so much fondness he’s afraid he might burst. “You don’t have to do that.”

Buck can't sleep. Eddie helps.

Summary
“I want all of this, Eddie. I want a home and a family and I— maybe I can’t have it while I’m sleeping on my best friend’s couch.”
The idea of Buck finding someone else, of him going anywhere further than their living room, sat like a brick in Eddie’s gut. Was he so desperate to escape? Could he see it, written all over Eddie’s face? The shift Eddie had been pointedly not looking at since he returned to LA.
“We are your family.”
“I need to learn to—”
“If you say stand on your own two feet one more time, Buck, I swear!”
Buck heaved a sigh, put upon and irritated, “Well, what’s so wrong with that?”
“We’ve fucking been alone, Buck. Me and you, all our lives, we’ve been doing it alone. You grew up alone. I did too. You don’t need to learn how to be alone, you need to learn how to lean on the people who are offering you their shoulder.”
OR -
An 8x18 epilogue/fix-it. Buck and Eddie fight, a few truths come to light and they learn how to lean on each other again.
