“You look like shit,” Val says with a monotone voice, sharp as a razor blade. “Did you have fun with Travis?”
It doesn’t escape Angel that this is the first time Val has actually called the guy by his name. Still, he ignores his heart pounding so loud and hard in his throat that he could choke on it, and he puts on a casual smile to match Val’s stoic facade.
“You know I did. That’s why I showed you.”
“I’m not in the mood for your fucking games, Angel.” Now, Val's voice is so loud and sudden that Angel actually jolts back.
“I ain’t playin’ any games,” he lies through his teeth, lightheaded with a rush of adrenaline. “I had planned the night for weeks. Did ya want me to sit on my ass at home doin’ nothing cuz ya fuckin’ ditched me?”
