“Thanks. Christ,” he muttered under his breath before resuming his smoke, pulled on it like if he tried hard enough it’d take him somewhere else.
Unfortunately he was still in the cramped room, feeling increasingly small and stuffy with Trevor staring him down from the other end of the shared bed– he now deeply regretted the decision to give in to Trevor’s insistence that a one bedroom would be cheaper, meaning they could spend that much more on coke. Which he was right, and they did, but it hardly felt worth it anymore. He thought about going out to sleep in the car to get away, but remembered they were basically snowed in across the Canadian border, even more northern than North Yankton.

The carcass was in the room, now, making its presence known. Much too clean from the ocean for a stench to emanate from it, but it laid in the corners, caught your eye if you weren’t careful, conscious, about it being there. And if you knew to look for it, it only became clearer, more pronounced, harder to look away from.
He could have walked out, but something kept him in place. The morbid curiosity of putting your hands within the cleaned-out body to see what still remained, if anything. See what it would do, to him, if reanimated.

Summary
Twenty-five years is a long time to spend in a dark place, and when you get home it can be hard to get back everything you've lost. And sometimes you're not the only one who's lost things, which at least means you can find them together.
So Saejima's home, and Majima's with him, but even with Yasuko sadly accounted for, there's still someone missing.
Or, Saejima buys Goromi a nice new dress and takes her on a date and they both feel a little more whole.
