Leland has a myriad of sleep issues, one of them including paranoia induced nightmares. He wakes from one of those in an entirely different headspace than his usual defensiveness. Edges sanded off, his wife gets the wrong idea and attempts to comfort him. He doesn't know where exactly he is, and she doesn't know that this sympathetic angle doesn't overwrite how horrible he can be.
