Summary
Without a second's warning, DIO's attack smashed through him, hurling him backwards into an unknown structure as Hierophant's tendrils, simultaneously slashed, fluttered like emerald ribbons out of view. Even as his vision blurred and his stand flitted across his line of sight, racing to brace for the impact, Kakyoin could see the smirk of his enemy, just as snide as their first meeting had been.
Kakyoin is, of course, too stubborn to die. Therefore, I, as someone who is not a coward, am fixing the mistakes of the authors and allowing him to live his life.

Summary
The manipulation of time during the fight with DIO in Egypt had caused the timeline to split into two parallel universes. On one side, Jotaro, Polnareff, and Joseph continue fighting. On the other, Kakyoin and Avdol carry on the legacy instead. Eleven years later in Morioh, the two worlds are brought back together. Only Jotaro and Kakyoin notice the change and have to investigate it together while old feelings bubble up to the surface.
TLDR: AU where Jotaro and Kakyoin are reunited in Part 4 because time is fucky.

"What're you going to do when you get back?" Kakyoin asked idly, combing his fingers through his hair to try and pull some order into the red knots. He turned on his side to face Jotaro.
They never really talked about "after". It seemed dangerous. All of them moved forward with the determination that they were going to put a stop to Dio, but none of them were blind to the reality that not everyone might make it back home.
They also never talked about an “after” in regards to them.
