“What the hell is this?” Hands on her hips, Zoya surveyed the scene in front of her with the same grim look she used to stare down her enemies in the battlefield.
Nikolai tilted his face up to her, a perfectly ripe strawberry poised halfway to his mouth. He lounged on the blanket at her feet, the late afternoon sunlight caught in his golden hair, and his lips were stained red with juice. The whole picture was unfairly tempting, and it made Zoya want to scowl.
“A picnic?”
Zoya rolled her eyes. “I can see that. What is it doing here?”--
Nikolai just wants to give Zoya a proper courtship, and Zoya just wants to know why he hasn't proposed already. Unrestrained summer fun in the form of fancy cheese and Nikolai's undying devotion. Spoilers for Rule of Wolves

Summary
Over the past six years, Zuko has perfected the art of playing the cool, collected Fire Lord, the opposite of his hotheaded father in every way. He’s cultivated the even gaze, the regal tone, the way he can make Sokka feel like he doesn’t even recognize him, when Sokka knows he is just as desperate to get him alone so they can get their hands on each other. But inevitably, Zuko will slip and look at him, and his eyes will be the eyes of Zuko, the man Sokka loves, instead of Zuko the Fire Lord. Sokka just has to be vigilant enough to catch it.

It was a familiar dance for them, a different sense of personal space that they had, at some point, tacitly agreed on – always standing too close, or choosing the seat next to each other, hands brushing or touching, shoulders bumping.
The familiarity of it was comforting, but there was also a new edge to it. For her, at least. She knew better now what could come next.
