CW for four people being their worst selves. Gideon and Harrow are roommates in a shitty yet expensive apartment. Ianthe and Corona live together too, in a lavish pre-war 3-bedroom that has been rent-controlled in their family for generations. Ianthe and Harrow are in the same grad sciences program, and Gideon is front-desk staff at the boutique gym Corona frequents. YES Gideon moved to New York so that Harrow could get her bioengineering PhD there and YES they had zero further discussion of what Harrow owes her or what plans Harrow will include her in after graduation 🥰
This story is about their lightning-bolt present and long slow future. Please be clear there are major Gideon/Harrow feelings, but they do not get intimate except in a way that fully exists to work out the author's fucked-up obsessive queerplatonic (?) early 20s. Overworked junior lawyer Harrow gets told by her therapist to do one (1) recreational activity to start rebalancing her life. She duly signs up for a pottery class taught by Cytherea, an artist almost twice her age. At first Harrow resents Cytherea's airy, self-amused demeanor, then she becomes obsessively invested in her approval. Her wheelthrowing doesn't really improve though. Eventually Harrow realizes that she's having a long-overdue gay awakening, which was already transparent to Cytherea, and they make out on top of the kiln.

Harrow's office is still down the same gray hallway. Ianthe doesn't think the furniture has even been rearranged in the past few decades. The keypad blinks red, but the door was left just barely open: an engraved invitation. Ianthe taps her access code in anyway, enjoying the faint sensation of Harrow's ward tasting the thalergy from her fingertips.
