Pat thought of the day when Pran left to go off to school. He hadn’t even considered the possibility. Pran’s presence was as certain as the sun - sometimes blaringly annoying in your eyes, but still providing necessary warmth.
Pat never would have imagined he could be there one day and gone the next.
That sinking loneliness after Pran was gone settled in Pat’s chest. The memory of it emptied him out. What if Pran was leaving again? What if this pushed him away for good?
Pat had just stood there last time. He had watched as Pran left.

Summary
Pat was everywhere - on his mouth, in his hair, in his lungs, and in his veins. Pran should have known it would be like this. He should have known that once that dam between them was broken, he wouldn’t be able to stop the water rushing forward. It gushes now, pouring out in heaving sobs.
