Summary
Flour. Salt. Butter. Granny Smith apples. Sugar. Flour. Salt. Some cinnamon here, a pinch of nutmeg there. One egg, beaten. Sugar. A squeeze of lemon.
This must be the tenth time Kinjou has read this particular recipe. It’s not as if he’s an inexperienced chef, and he certainly has spent enough time with Tadokoro to be a competent baker, but there’s a slight hesitation tainting his thoughts.
He wants this to be special.

Summary
He wonders what Makishima looks like now; he wonders if he’s learnt the same lessons, too. He wonders if he’ll be able to see them — the way they mar Makishima’s skin, the way they sit just behind his eyes, the way they keep him from being him. It isn’t as though Toudou hasn’t seen him not once these past four years, but moments seem fleeting in Makishima’s presence. Like he’s chasing after a ghost, or someone who doesn’t want to be found, or someone who doesn’t want to be found by him. Toudou doesn’t know what he does wrong. Everyone else is awestruck, positively stunned; everyone else admires him, wants him, wants to be him — but never Makishima. Nothing he’s ever done could impress Makishima the way he impresses the rest of the world. But Toudou wouldn't want that, either.

It’s not like anything can get any worse by doing this, Arakita thinks as he continues to plaster flyers up on the street lights around the Yonan University campus. His hands are just on the verge of going numb, and he’s probably eaten more tape than he’s stuck on at this point, but at least he’s getting out. Doing stuff. Being productive. There hasn’t been a lot in his life for a while; getting seriously injured and quitting the sport which you poured years into would do that to you; but he’s been slaving away at a new, ugh, “hobby” as his mom likes to call it, so not everything’s gone to the shitter. Things are actually looking pretty up, in all honesty. And he hasn’t even flunked out of university. Yet. There’s always time.
Either way, he’s down to his last flyer and he’s pretty pleased with how everything’s gone. Arakita looks down at his wonky, lopsided handiwork, beaming at the text that he’d written out at 1 AM the previous night. Of course, he’d rushed out to the 24/7 Internet cafe near his building to get it printed seconds after he’d completed it, because that’s the type of person he is. The piece of paper reads:
FUCKUP BASSIST SEEKING FUCKUP DRUMMER
