Dingy. That was the first word that came to mind. Frankly, the lack of lighting in the shop itself made Kenma question whether it was really open or not. The only illumination he could see came from the short range that the neon sign had offered. Otherwise, he could barely see anything else, save for the tiny light that emitted from the back of the shop. Fishing a hand into his jacket pocket, he pulled out a slip of paper given to him by a good friend of his.
“He’s terrible,” Yaku had said. “But a genius. An absolute pain-in-the-ass genius.”

It takes one week and four days before Kenma cracks, spends eight minutes composing a message, and sends it to Kuroo asking how the hell poison ivy is meant to be used for healing.
(Kuroo explains things better than Shigeru. There’s no mocking or judgement, and he keeps patient even when Kenma asks close to the same question again and again. It’s easier to ask him some nights than it is to knock on Shigeru’s bedroom door.)
(He doesn’t tell a soul he’s talking to him, but from the looks Shigeru sometimes sends him, he thinks he probably knows.)

It’s a modest two-bedroom in the western suburbs, far enough from the bustling crowds to be affordable but still counting, technically, as Tokyo. They’re noisy before they sleep but quiet when they rise, shuffling mutedly out of the door for joint morning runs before bursting back into the apartment for joint morning showers. Shouyou cooks breakfast while Kageyama packs their lunch and gym bags, and they never share a goodbye kiss because they always leave together.
It’s warm and cozy and disgustingly domestic, and it’s probably everything Shouyou’s ever dreamed of.
Except, Kenma thinks irately, Kageyama doesn’t actually live here.

Shouyou moves in with Kenma when he ends up in Tokyo for college. Kenma subsequently realizes that half the things in Shouyou’s boxes are actually Kageyama’s because he should have fucking known.

Even when they went to different schools, Kuroo would meet him afterwards so they could walk home together, shoulders brushing, Kuroo occasionally taking the opportunity to guide him when his nose was buried in the newest video game. Summary
In another universe, Bokuto pulls Akaashi aside on the day of his graduation and presents him with the second button ripped from his uniform beneath the cherry blossoms. In another universe, Bokuto gives Akaashi his heart before heading off to university, and Akaashi is only too happy to accept.
This story, however, is not a part of that universe.
In this universe, Akaashi sits and watches Bokuto gleam as he accepts his diploma, smile big and bright as the sun, and Akaashi can't help the pang in his chest. He is proud of his ace, and he will always be proud of Bokuto; the older boy has been scouted for talent to the University of Tokyo and was already begging Akaashi to come and visit him, and yet it feels like Akaashi is losing him.
Keiji Akaashi has never been good at lying to himself.
