Over the next two weeks, Harry manages to cut open his finger three times, spill boiling water on himself once, and turn his skin polka-dotted, and somehow Potions is still the highlight of Zayn’s week. It’s just…in Potions, he doesn’t remember the absence at his side, doesn’t remember how even if he hangs out with Liam or any of the other Gryffindors, it still feels like something’s missing, something not even Louis’s regular letters can help. But in Potions, it feels like Zayn’s laughing too hard at Harry and Niall’s antics to remember that.

Zayn wants everything that isn't small town Vermont, a place he can never seem to escape no matter how hard he tries. All he wants is the warmth of stage lights on his skin, his guitar in hand, singing with a voice like heaven in a place where he finally means something — where he finally matters.
Unfortunately for him, his return back to his hometown is welcomed by none other than Liam Payne, their high school's former all-star football player turned mechanic, and resident pain in his ass that just won't leave him alone. Within a small town, population 500, there's no escaping him... but maybe that's not as bad a thing as he thought.

Zayn feels invincible, in the midst of this small town with a couple of best mates and literature students who seem to get him. He misses home but as every day approaches these people feel less like strangers and more like family.
(Or a University AU where Zayn is an English student and Liam is the football captain).
