Summary
Jihoon definitely looks like one of those artsy, exhaustively cultured types; prim and pretty and hella pretentious, who’s only resigned himself to a retail job cause selling his art prints on TikTok shop didn’t pan out, and the bank of Mom and Dad wasn’t willing to bank roll his granola lifestyle anymore.
Seungcheol knows the type well, sees about a dozen of them roll through the store every year.
He’s ready to bet good money Jihoon’s going to call in sick at least twice before end of the month, throw a fit when his application for time-off over the Christmas period gets rejected (but then take the time-off anyway), and then resign dramatically after his first bad performance review, refuse to work his notice period, only to storm back in a month later, furious that they’re not willing to provide him with a glowing reference.
At least, that’s what the last three guys who worked the customer service desk did. But hey—maybe this time it will be different.

wow.. op you've done it once again.
i honestly think it's going to take a while to write down all my feelings towards this fic. first of all, it took me one entire week to read this fic, not because i didn't love it but because i didn't want it to end.
when jihoon's first dialogue came, i knew i was in for a ride because i could tell he was lying, or telling half of the truth about his name. perhaps, he was escaping from his life in the city, a troubled past, who knew.
his behavior was indeed a little bit weird, but i thought it was part of the troubled past thing, you know? how he was a goody two shoes or a by the book guy but, then whenever cheol talked about the family that run the business, he got so defensive, i knew he was doing some undercover job for corporate, then i completely changed my mind and knew his father was the owner of the company.
and you know, adding my 3 cents on this but i also was a little bit naive like jihoon because even mexico (where i live) with all its flaws, a lot of jobs follow laws by the book and i was so outraged when cheol talked about things that happened to him or happened because HQ didn't gaf about it's employees. workers of the world, let's rise or whtv!anyways, in my mind, not only was jihoon part of the family that owned this store but he was trying to prove a point by being there, i thought... perhaps this is something he wanted to do before taking over? or perhaps it is a challenge or some type of grueling job he now has to do because his parents are forcing him to take over the family business 🧐
cheol was of course someone he liked from the very first time they crossed paths but as we know how it went, jihoon tried to win him over quietly, it's obvious from the beginning that they're each other's type.and this is also seen when jihoon tries to apologize to him every single time and how he gifts him little baked goods (this part is where i got a little confused because i thought, this guy doesn't work for HQ he definitely just wants a fresh start in that city),.
anyway, i don't think either jihoon or seungcheol thought that jihoon's personality would've lead to this confrontations with chulmoo or the humiliations he went through, this is why he was so shy in showing it to the world and also, why he kept repeating "he was right, i'm not fit for this" and once again, that made me think that he was from a rich family that was conditional in letting him stay in that small town.
one of the moments that definitely stayed in my mind for a while was:
"Jihoon drops his gaze to the floor, his shoulders drawn up in a defensive hunch, then does as he’s told, but not before giving Seungcheol every betrayed and wounded look in his arsenal."
i thought of the look jihoon gives jeonghan after he tells him off for trying to help soonyoung with ramen cooking on that one boo family gose episode. anyways this was just a random thought.after their" relationship" was developing, it was more than clear that jihoon was flirting but held himself back because he thought it was the right thing to do, however seungcheol didn't want to admit it because part of him still found jihoon annoying and too different. i never thought jihoon was just going to run away and ghost cheol instead i thought he was going to be honest with seungcheol and he was going to get mad and ghost jihoon instead.
i don't think i ever read a fic like this, i honestly just let my imagination get the best of me and i actually guessed it right. i love this fic so so much op, you just have a way with words that leads me to imagine every part of your stories, the way you portray seungcheol and jihoon, specifically is great, i wish i was good enough with words and English to be able to tell you. everytime i read one of your fics is so fun because i know for a fact that i'm not going to be able to leave my phone because your stories are just that interesting, please never stop writing. 🤍🌟
