In the end, he forces himself towards the cafeteria. Maybe lunch will make him feel better, maybe it will help him make sense of the way Wilhelm had just spoken to him. So casual and kind, like he had never ripped Simon’s world in half and ground his heart into dust.
But maybe that’s exactly what Simon had always been to him: casual.

“She does,” Simon insists. He sits up slowly, burying his face in Wille’s neck. “She thinks you're a wonderful, wonderful boy.”
Something warm settles in Wilhelm’s stomach.“Really?”

“I can’t see shit, August. What kind of a fucking angle is this?”

Summary
Simon forces himself to keep breathing. It’s only suspicious if he makes it so, he tells himself firmly. “What’s wrong?” he teases, doing his best to keep his tone light. “I’m sure you’ve met plenty of my kind.”
“Nothing,” Wilhelm jumps to defend himself. He picks idly at the skin of his fingers and Simon can’t help but notice the ragged flesh around his nails, almost as if this is a common habit for him. “I’ve just never had the best relationship with reporters - or the press.”

Or: Simon, a journalist at a left-wing magazine, eagerly accepts the chance of a lifetime to write a scathingly honest piece about the newly crowned King Wilhelm, who has a history shrouded in parties, drugs, and gay allegations. His plans, however, go to shit when he realizes that Wilhelm is nothing like he expected.

“What do you usually do when you’re blocked?” Simon’s thumbs are pressing in on the tendons at the side of Wille’s neck, feeling the muscle relax as he goes then sweeping up to do it again just to hear Wille’s soft sigh.
“Oh you know, all the usual things. Go for a walk, talk it through with Felice…” Wille goes a little pink, then. “Pick a fight with you on Twitter.”
"What?” Simon laughs and pulls back to grin delightedly at Wille.
“Simon,” Wille starts, rolling his eyes, “if you don’t know that you being kinda mean to me gets me going, then I honestly don’t know what we’re even doing here.”
