“You never know what could happen.” Wallace shrugs. “I used to lose these everyday back in elementary. It just disappears when I use it after once or twice.”
Scott gives a few seconds to himself to think about it, before ultimately agreeing with Wallace.
Or, Wallace has his own moments of stupidity. This is one of them.

“I like making other people happy,” David says. Max kicks him again. David kicks him back. It’s more a nudge than anything, their sneakers banging against each other harmlessly. “And happy people don’t leave their tents in the middle of the night and wander around alone, Max.”
“I don’t get nightmares.” Max pauses there, but David doesn’t say anything more. The stars cover the sky in clusters, like thickets of wildflowers coating the forest floor. Max says, like a challenge, “I have insomnia.”
(David and Max help each other, feat. stolen canoes, near drowning, and an ugly yellow comforter.)

Summary
"But…” Scott starts, and then just darts his eyes down and away. Ugh, he’s gonna be the death of him. Unfair that Scott’s the vampire between the two of them, because Wallace wants to eat him right up.
“Look, Scott, you can drink if you want,” and oh god his pupils are already getting big and scary (and hot), “But you’re gonna get my alcohol blood, you know that? Right?” He puts his hand on Scott’s cheek and watches his nostrils flare and eyes widen, flicking to stare at his wrist. Okay, maybe that was mean to tease like that, like waving a bone in front of a rabid dog. But maybe Wallace likes it when he gets like this.

“By all means… cuddle,” Wallace mutters, barely still among the living. “Just… pretend I’m not here.”Scott twists up his mouth in discomfort, looks over at Ramona, weighs his options. He could ask if she wants to make out still - not like he hasn’t awkwardly been in the room with Wallace and one of his flings enough times, it’s only fair. He thinks back to the tangled hot knot in his stomach each of those evenings, the restless nights that followed, and thinks maybe the revenge would be fun, would be worth it. Maybe it’d be hot even? Or something? But. Ugh. He fists his hand in his hair and sighs, “Sorry Ramona, wanna rain check the cuddling?”
