Summary
Black, curly hair tossed over her shoulder, effortlessly. Large, warm brown eyes. Dark, golden brown skin. Sharp cheekbones. And her legs — oh they were long. She wore a black skirt and tights with black, knee-high leather boots, and her legs were captivating.
Then his eyes caught at her torso. She was wearing a sweater much like his own. Except hers didn’t have the Grinch like his, but had the Grinch’s sidekick — Max.
He laughed, sharply.
The woman, who had been trying to flag the bartender, looked at him. She looked at his sweater and also let out a sharp laugh.
Then she seemed to do the same body perusal as he had and he smiled, smugly as she seemed to linger on his physique.
“Seems we were meant to meet tonight,” Anthony said and at that her laugh turned derisive.
“That’s the line you’re starting with?” The woman tutted. “Shame. Had higher hopes than that.”

"When he heard there was a small acreage of land in Somerset up for sale, only a few tenants to manage for a fairly low selling point, Anthony nearly leapt at the opportunity. Finally, he could practice his management skills. Finally, he did not need to run every minute detail with his father. Finally, he had a space that could be his own.
Anthony signed the paperwork and closed the deal by the end of the week."

He lowered his voice. “You are the most capable and intelligent person I have yet to meet. You make all of us look like fools.”
Her mouth opened in surprise before she quickly hid her feelings again. “Even you, my lord?”
She was smiling, clearly expecting an argument, but Anthony did not want her to think he took this lightly. He needed to correct her thinking. She needed to know that his initial promises were changing. Even if she did not reciprocate, he valued their honest rapport.
“You have made me the biggest fool, I think. For I thought I could pursue this courtship without any affection or strong feelings. Yet, it is impossible for me to feel nothing when I am with you.”

Anthony decides that Kate is the only woman fit to be Viscountess Bridgerton and catches feelings along the way. Fortunately, so does Kate.

Anthony narrowed his eyes and leaned his arms on the bar top. He tilted his head and said, very matter-of-fact, “You don’t like me.”
“Hmmm,” Kate tutted, pretending to think hard about it, “Decidedly not.”
“You don’t even know me!” Anthony countered, his nostrils flaring.
“I know you.” She shook her head and continued cleaning the bar. “You are not unique.”
“I’d love to hear what you have to say.”
Kate snorted, “I’m sure. I’m sure you love to listen to people talk about you.”
He rolled his eyes. “Go on, then.”

Summary
Anthony could not change his actions from before, though he wished desperately that he could.
“I have no means of going back to before, Miss Sharma,” he said, “But perhaps, at least while we are here in these woods, we can try again. Start over, from the beginning.” She looked at him, confused, and he continued with a teasing grin, “You are simply a lady taking a morning ride. I am a handsome gentleman who has crossed your path.”
At that, Kate let out an amused scoff and Anthony’s grin widened.

Summary
“You do not care what others think of you?” He asked. The man studied her and then quickly looked at their surroundings. “I find that difficult to believe.”
“And why is that?” Kate was not certain why she felt compelled to argue with the man, though he seemed to enjoy the back and forth. As did she, not that she would admit as much.
He tilted his head. “You are attending a ball where the goal of nearly every unmarried person is to find a suitable match. We base such matches on what we think of others actions or status, do we not? To attend such an event disproves your earlier claim.”
“Enlighten me, my lord. Is that your goal? Are you looking for a suitable match?”
He pursed his lips and looked away momentarily, and Kate felt herself almost sway at his movement, as if pulled into his orbit. He took a step closer. “And if I were to say yes?”
“If you were to say yes, then I would suggest it would do you better to peruse the dance floor rather than this terrace.”

"And so, they ran errands together and sometimes walked to the other’s home after school. Diana teased Anne about it fairly often at first, always with a coy grin. But, Anne stopped letting it annoy her. She was now used to spending more time with Gilbert Blythe. She found herself enjoying time at his home, and she even learned to enjoy having him at hers.
When he wasn’t with Dr. Ward or helping Bash on the orchard, Anne was usually around his orbit. At school, at Green Gables, with Mary. While with their peers, they still kept their distance — she couldn’t possibly spend more time with him than the girls, and he barely had time to catch up with all that he missed on top of the knowledge he needed to pursue medical school. Still. Sometimes they chatted in the morning. And usually, if one of them needed someone to proof or edit a piece of writing, they would share it with the other. It was nice. It made him happy, their familiarity."
The little moments between the end of season two and three, showing the development of Gilbert and Anne's friendship, and how it changed within the span of a year.

"Anne knew, in the very back corners of her mind, that she was probably being a little unfair to the other head intern. It wasn’t Gilbert’s fault that their boss, Mr. Philipps, was a raging misogynist that hated any woman in a leadership position. It wasn’t Gilbert’s fault that his ideas were always chosen over hers...It wasn’t his fault that everyone found him to be a charming and lovable guy, constantly fawning over him. And yet. Anne blamed him anyway.
Typically Gilbert knew when he was pushing her buttons. He also knew that he should probably stop. Anne had to deal with enough shit from their boss, and was being treated unfairly...Consequently, he told himself that he should approach her with more kindness, considering the position she had been placed. And he did. Really.
But, sometimes he couldn’t help himself...He’d feel more shame if it didn’t lead to some of the most entertaining moments of his day."
Anne and Gilbert are coworkers during a Summer internship, much to Anne's frustration. Despite a rocky start, the two start to become friends and, well, you can probably guess.

Erick Wentworth has always been a runner. Avoidance is his specialty. So, when he somehow finds himself back in Uppercross, thanks to his sister Sophie and her husband Adam, he's flummoxed. It's the one city he swore he would never visit again. The same city where he met Anne Ilao eight years ago.
And so, he does what he does best. He runs. Away from the truth, at least.
Erick promises himself that he's over it, pretends he doesn't know her, and acts as though their relationship all those years ago never happened.
But, he finds that running away from their past isn't as easy as he thought.
**This is a companion piece to the story A Sense of Self told from the point of view of Erick. Some of this probably won't make sense unless you've read that story, BUT I think that if you read this and are interested, you can also go back and read the original story afterward.

Anne, in an attempt to avoid Charlie Sloane, escapes the schoolhouse with Gilbert one afternoon. On this walk, she and Gilbert talk through their confusion about courting and love and the future.
Their talk leads to different choices, and this is how it plays out.
Basically my take on how the series could have ended if this one talk had happened.

It's the annual church picnic, and the Cuthberts decide to picnic with Mary, Bash, and Gilbert. Bash's teasing leads to a typical Anne and Gilbert spat, but it ends with the two of them contemplating their new friendship, and reflecting on how far they've come.
[Bash teases an oblivious Gilbert about Ruby, which leads to a rehashing of the slate incident. They bicker and it's cute and they don't get together at the end, but it's all about the yearning. I'm all about the little moments. Also Bash is a shipper and I love to see him stan. Set around the summer before season 3.]

Summary
Anne Ilao has always put her family first. It's the Filipino American way. Her father and sister, Walter and Eliza, cared more about their friends. Her sister, Maria, cared too much about everything - but especially her in-laws. So, it has always been up to Anne to care about the family as a whole. It's what she promised her mom she would do, before she passed.
The one time she considered refusing this job, letting her family fend for themselves, was about 8 years ago. The year she met Erick Wentworth. He left (she broke both of their hearts), but now he's back.
Anne is forced to confront her past, the one she's been trying very hard to forget, and confront her present. Is this the life she wants? Or really - can she go after the life she wants?
