Summary
After four years of not talking to Varian, Hugo figured that whatever friendship they had as children was good and buried. Which was fine by him, childhood friends never lasted beyond high school anyways. He would go off to college, leave whatever past he had behind, and start over fresh.
But when he finds himself with one foot in the door of a prestigious science program and the other in his mouth, the only person who can get him out of itty bitty gigantic lie is, unfortunately, the one person he was determined to never see again.
Surely Varian grew out of his vengefulness in the last few years, right?

Summary
When he awoke the day after graduation only to find that Ryan had already left town in his dad’s van, he felt as though he would never eat again. The summer months continued to be hot and sticky, but the jut of hip bones and slender spines and decaying bodies and fireflies and looks that they gave each other but weren’t allowed to speak about was behind him. The secret pact of staring at each other and biting their lips before glancing away was broken. The unknowable, unplaceable thing that they’d both known and both placed was unlearned and forgotten. Summer simply became summer, with all the unpleasantries that were attached to it.

Summary
It was no small exaggeration to say that, on paper, Varian was living a near perfect life. It was hard to imagine the boy-or as his father so often called him, ‘young man’-wanting for anything and for the most part he didn’t. However, if someone was to catch him in the early hours of the morning, they would be led to believe that nothing had ever gone right in the history of his entire life.

Summary
After relying on Ulla’s notebook to help them through their journey, the gang find that the next kingdom has little to no notes on where the next trial takes place. Their only clue is a location that might have a lead on where to go next. However, after a royal mess up on Hugo’s part, they’re left up the creek without a paddle. Not only are tensions high, but emotions as well. One thing was certain though: Hugo and Varian did not mix well.

Summary
They were somewhere cold and dark, the walls undefined but undoubtedly huge, like a labyrinth to the sky. Why were they down here again? A totem? Supplies? Treasure? It had to be one of those things, although they’d been walking so long Hugo had to admit he’d forgotten their purpose. That was ok by him. At some point in his life, the lure of treasure would be more than enough to catch his attention, but as time went on he found himself weighing Varian’s time against gold and surprisingly, Varian was winning.

Summary
Three days. Varian had been awake for three days.
A consecutive eighty one hours, in fact, if anyone were to have been counting. It wasn't all that uncommon for Varian to stay up for days on end, tinkering on a new project or diddling around with concepts he found interesting. He was quite accustomed to it, actually, and seemed to fare well enough with a less than sub par sleep schedule.
Unfortunately for Varian,"well enough" was, in reality, not that well in the slightest.
Huge thanks to Varibean for taking time out of his day to take my not-good 830 word fic and make it REALLY GOOD!! thank you, man, I owe you big!!

A month after the Chickeraffe incident, all of Sam and Guy’s adventures are put behind them. But old faces from Guy’s past and pent up emotions from Sam’s abandonment seem to be getting in the way of their happily ever after.

Summary
Part of him wondered what made his mother think that this was an appropriate late 30th birthday present. He would’ve been happy with absolutely nothing instead of such a grim reminder of what he had lost. His youth, his drive, his inventiveness. Where had he gone wrong?
Had he really gotten so old in such a short time?

Summary
He’d been having a pleasant day up until that point. His father had taken him out apple picking. Not in one of the big farming orchards for work, just to some of the smaller trees that were scattered against the forest entrance. For fun, he had said, and Varian had looked at him as if the idea of him and his father having fun together was so novel that it bordered on fantasy.

The people in your village who knew your mother constantly tell you about how much you look like her: your eyes, your nose, your hair. They call you a ‘pretty little thing’ as if it were a compliment.

Summary
The sight of the rose sends a shiver down your spine, the lush blooming pink making you grimace slightly at what it symbolizes. It’s pinned ever so neatly to January’s shirt and even against the summer shade it reaches out to you, a vile and obtrusive thing.
