Jean’s hands pressing down on the exit wound, finger slipping in all the blood and catching on the edge of the wound. Pain and pain and pain. Jean’s powers, a thick cloud of nothingness taking shape, crawling through the hole in his torso, searing shut broken arteries and forcing air into his lungs.

It's not like Shawn intentionally kept it a big secret or anything. It just never came up, those first two months of the whole Psych business. Santa Barbara has some great after school programs, he and Gus switch off on who handles transportation, and Shawn does his best to avoid weekend cases.
So he never meant to not tell anyone he had a kid. The streams just never got crossed.
