Summary
Deep within the twisting warrens of the Necropolis, Tenar Ingellvar was beginning to panic. The stale air of the crypts, normally a comfort, was choking them.
"A spirit of Curiosity has become corrupted and turned to Malice," Myrna had said. That was then. This was now. Now was the quiet spirit that lived in Tenar's head frantically trying to get out. Their panic bled into Tenar, warping the familiar halls into a prison.
Tenar's breath turned ragged, gasping.
"Rook? Are you alright?" It was Lucanis. Of course it was Lucanis, the last person they wanted seeing them like this, for reasons they were thoroughly unwilling to examine.
Meditation on a possessed Rook and that one Mourn Watch quest.

Summary
Along the continuum of culinary skill within the team, Rook sat squarely in the middle. They certainly weren't going to be winning any cooking competitions, but they also hadn't inadvertently poisoned anyone (Lucanis still shuddered at the thought of Lace's attempts at dinner). The issue was that they were too precise. They struggled with things like 'heaping teaspoon' and 'dash of salt.' So their cooking was often under or over seasoned. Edible, but not inspiring.
...
"Lucanis, who in their right mind adds 'to taste' to a recipe? Whose taste? Should everyone eating it come give it a try?""I believe they're leaving it to your professional judgement," he said. Rook grumbled something unintelligible and scrunched up their nose in a way Lucanis found dangerously endearing. He chuckled quietly and moved to stand next to them.
A quiet moment in the middle of the apocalypse.

Summary
Solemn, devoted Lucanis. He doesn’t know how heavy his regard is, how the force of his attention sends shivers down her spine. Dutybound Lucanis, who would never ask her to stay in Treviso; does he think it’s kinder that way? That the question, once vocalized, might clip her wings?
He offers deaths at every turn, like each life is a bauble that caught her eye at market. The world holds perhaps a score of throats he wouldn’t slit at her word. It's sweet, in its way. Comforting, sometimes, having the most fearsome Crow in Antiva at her shoulder. Galling, occasionally, when people look at her and only see the threat of Lucanis’s shadow.
Lucanis, holding her after the latest round of nightmares. Anchoring her to sanity with his soft beard against her cheek, his hands on her ribcage while her heart tries to beat itself out of her chest. Every night in his arms is another night she’s grateful she outlived the gods.
Life would be simpler if she loved him a little less.
The gods are dead, the world's a mess, no one is happy about the new Talon, and Rook's haunted by regret. Rook, Spite, and Lucanis figure out how to live despite it all.

Summary
Directly after killing Kalvaxus, Danielle Barkstock sat on the curb outside of the school, pulled a blunt out of her pocket, and lit up. This could have been a risky move, but for multiple reasons—her moms wouldn’t care, any teachers and cops nearby had more than enough to deal with, Principal Aguefort was more likely to ask for a hit than ask her to stop—she wasn’t worried about any of that. On the asphalt before her Antiope Jones was pacing back and forth, a bouncy, energetic step.
At the time Yelle assumed it was nervous energy. Nothing like getting kidnapped, followed by a griffin flight, followed by killing a dragon, to get your heart rate bumping. She would learn, in the upcoming years, that it wasn’t actually unusual. Antiope’s adrenaline was ever present, and easily harnessed.
But all she did was hold out the blunt and ask, “Need some help calming down?”

Summary
“Can you wave bye to miss Sofie?”
“Bye!” Grace waved excitedly, which would have been adorable even if she hadn’t still been standing a mere foot and a half away from Sofia.
Sofie grinned, waving back. “Bye, Princess Grace, thank you for my card.” Grace waved again, before bounding away.
“Thank you for being so understanding,” Dale said, his voice low, and Sofie jumped a little when she realized he was still standing so close to her.
“Oh, of course. She’s wonderful.” Sofie watched Dale’s eyes land on Grace, standing by the door, the way his whole face softened. “You’ve got a great kid, Dale, and I meant it when I said you guys were welcome in any time. Maybe next time, I can see what I can do with that mess.” She waggled her finger towards his hair, damp from a shower and falling slightly into his eyes.
Dale blushed slightly, glancing down at his shoes, but nodded. “I am overdue for a trim,” he mused, running his hand through his hair. Dale had, in Sofie’s humble and unbiased opinion, the best kind of hair. She fought down the urge to run her fingers through it- He’s probably married, Sof, she reminded herself, he has a kid. Mind your manners.

Summary
Usually she came in through his window. She liked to slip her legs over the sill and perch there, leaning against the frame, while he worked at his desk a few feet away, sketching plans or making notes or reviewing accounts. She found it comforting, balancing like that; if she looked one way she could see across the rooftops of Ketterdam, her own private domain. Look the other way and there was Kaz.
The day it happened, she took the stairs. Later, she’d wonder if things might have turned out differently had she’d chosen otherwise.
[In which Inej tries to get the best of Kaz. Her feelings get the best of her instead, whoops.]

Summary
“Fuck off, Jack,” Shepard said, and the sharpness of her words almost— almost— caught Jack off guard. “I’m not here to fix you. I don’t feel bad for you. I want to kill the Collectors, and you agreed to help me do it.”
Jack's had enough of people trying to put her back together. Shepard has no intention of trying.
A study of an unlikely alliance and an accidental friendship.
