Summary
Standing in tattered white robes, reclining on the stones of his well, in the middle of the Arabian sand dunes, is an Englishman.
Surely, he can’t be *the* Englishman, Ali reasons wildly. There are seventeen point eight million Englishmen in the world right now. Five million fought in the war. Several thousand of those were blonde, he’s certain. A few had joined and survived the Arab revolt.
… and one knows exactly where his well is.
It’s only Monday, and the desert is trying to kill him with mirages of stupid, blond-haired, blue-eyed Englishmen.
--------------------------------------
Convinced to return to Faisal's side for the Paris Peace Conference, Lawrence begins his great redemption arc by stealing Ali's water– and his heart– one more time.

Summary
Instead of a smugly grinning Howeitat, there stands El Aurens, and the first thing Ali can think of is that even the war could not make this man less beautiful.
The expression on Lawrence’s face is uncertain, but for the first time since he returned from Cairo, there is a little of his old fire behind those eyes. “I did not know you to blaspheme, Sherif.”
Ali huffs, stepping away and wiping fiercely at his tears. “I did not know you to care, English.”
“No,” Lawrence sighs, suddenly serious. “I haven’t done very well with that, have I?”
(or, what could have happened if Lawrence overheard one critical conversation in the courtyards of Damascus...)

Summary
"Not all of us here enjoy the privilege of being famous because we appeared on BBC," Ali begins, his mouth twisting into a sly smile. That might seem strange to Lawrence, but he doesn't really care. "Are the English so easily impressed by a little polished eloquence and a pleasant smile?" he asks sincerely, unaware of the unintentional compliment he's paid to the man in front of him.
A man who certainly needs no further confirmation of both his cultural background and his handsome physical appearance.
"Oh, so you find my smile pleasant?" is the point-blank question Lawrence asks Ali, and Ali wants nothing more than to wipe that cocky expression off his face by any means necessary.
With a punch, possibly.
[Egyptian history professor al-Kharīsh hates his British colleague Lawrence to death. Maybe everything will change between them when he's forced to share his university office with him for two weeks in Cairo]
