Revali wanted to be annoyed at his candor, wanted to want to be annoyed. Of course he liked Link. Of course he was rendered helpless by Link’s touch, unable to do anything but reveal his whole heart to him—no matter that Revali knew it would only end with him shot through it.
Of course he didn’t say any of that.
In which Revali and Link get sidetracked on the way back from their latest mission.

Revali all but slams his bills on the counter. The cashier, a small guy with blond hair tied into a neat bun, blinks at him for a moment before inputting on the register and taking the money.
A few minutes later, he looks down at his order and grimaces.
“There’s milk in this,” he says flatly.
The cashier winks.

The day before he fought Ganon the first time, he’d visited all the people he’d come to know and all the Champions waiting for release. He had thought it would be the last time he’d ever see them. He’d even made peace with it.
Now, that yesterday is nearing a month ago for Link, and he is so tired.
“I did,” he says. “I went. Fought Ganon.”
“— Did you have to retreat?”
“…Didn’t fight it today. Five days ago. And ten. But also today.”
Link defeats the Calamity. And then he faces it again and again and again and again—

“I just wanted to help,” said Link, mouth slipping into a frown. He was Hyrule’s Hero, after all. And if his reasons for volunteering so quickly to help Revali were a little selfish—even then, at least he would still be fulfilling his duty either way, right?
Revali’s gaze sliced into his own. Normally Revali made his feelings on everything obvious, whether or not anyone wanted him to, but this time, Link found himself unable to parse Revali’s expression. “I didn’t need your help,” he said quietly. “I don’t need your help.”
“I’m still giving it to you anyway.”
In which Link and Revali fight a hinox, fight each other, and fight some beliefs they've long since internalized.
