Eddie says it so casually but with so much venom that Chrissy can’t help it. She laughs out loud, not even one of those soft, cutesy, lady-like laughs she’s spent so much time practicing. An actual cackle. So loud and shrill that she actually covers her mouth, shocked and slightly mortified. “I’m s—”

They’re in Eddie’s bedroom, Steve sprawled out carelessly on Eddie’s desk chair. Chrissy had stood there awkwardly in the doorway, not sure what to do or where to stand until finally, Eddie had grabbed her hand and pulled her inside without pretense, pointing to his bed before heading to his closet, muttering to himself.
“You can sit down, you know. We won’t bite," Steve says.
“Unless you ask,” Eddie quips, turning away from what Chrissy assumes is where he keeps his…stuff…long enough to wink at her suggestively.
