Steve notices Robin and Nancy have gotten closer since the whole Vecna situation and is happy for them. Except, he begins to think they are getting too close for his liking and now is jealous and afraid Nancy will steal his spot as Robin’s best friend. Little does he know, that’s not what’s happening at all.

It was safe to say he hadn’t been lying when he told the Miyagi-Fangs karate hadn’t been his first hobby. Funnily enough, breaking and entering, or even stealing, hadn’t been either.
It’d been floriography that had done the trick for him. Looking at them, collecting them, making bouquets and assigning them meaning; yeah, the times he could just do that the whole summer without any external interruptions had definitely been a few of the best moments in his life.
Because flowers were something constant. Most of their meanings came from ancient civilizations and their beliefs or scientist and artists that had lived centuries before Robby, which meant it was hard for people to change them, and the blooms themselves had intricate ways of being cared for that, If changed, could mean their deaths. Even when they did die, he at least knew it was coming by the way they would dwindle.
If Robby couldn’t trust anything else in his life to be consistent and perpetual – not his dad, not his mom, not even his own friends –, at least the flowers he adored so much were the one exception.
That was, until he found Tory.

“That makes two of us, then.” He sighed against his cellphone.
“Why? Not enjoying the father-son trip?” She asked, something akin to sadness lacing her tone of voice. If she wasn’t able to feel happy right now, she’d been hoping at least he would.
Apparently though, the universe was really against them both.
“Not much. Things are just rough because, you know, it’s me and my dad. But don’t worry, it should get better soon.” Robby didn’t know If he was trying to convince her or himself as he said that. “And If it doesn’t, I’ll just go back home earlier.”
“Well, either way, I’ll be here for you when you come back.”

“I want everything with you, Robs.” Tory suddenly found herself confessing. “I want the early mornings with us and my family, the late-night talks until we both fall asleep, us watching old movies in the drive-in, us going to your skatepark and just enjoying the day.” She had that look on her face again, the earnest one he’d seen when she’d talked about the scenarios in which they could’ve met before. “I just want you. And I don’t see myself ever not wanting you or letting you go.”
The last time Robby had heard such sweet words directed towards him, they hadn’t been all truthful and he'd gotten hurt because of them, making it almost impossible for him to believe people who said anything similar to him. But hearing Tory say those things and look so goddamn happy as she told him he was the one she wanted to do all of that with, well...
He didn’t have a single doubt she was being nothing but honest.
“I’m glad to hear that, because there’s nowhere else I’d rather be than with you.”

Summary
Robby subtly stepped away from the crowd, turning back to the hall that gave them access to the interior of the dojo a few minutes before without drawing anybody’s attention. He’d seen that said hall was also connected to another part of the dojo, as it continued towards the other side too, and right now he was hoping it led him to Tory.
Unbelievably so, it did.
The boy found her sitting on a bench near one of the changing rooms, hugging her legs and laying her head on top of them. It was a depressing sight, and he never wanted to see it again.
He approached her slowly, not wanting to scare her off.
“What are you doing here, Robby?” Tory asked, not moving one inch from her position. The question made him stop in his tracks, surprised she’d known he was the one looking for her, but immediately started moving closer once again, because there was nothing actually surprising in him wanting to make sure she was okay.
“I could ask you the same thing.”
or,
Robby notices Tory leaving the dojo before her match before anyone else and does something about it.

I can’t think of anything.” She took a step towards Nancy, not in a threatning way but the brunette backed away anyway. “I’ve tried, Nance, but no matter what I think of or what I do, nothing makes this empty feeling go away. No music, movie, or food can drive my thoughts away from the fact that my best friend and probably favorite person in this entire world might not be in it when I wake up. You know, the guy whose guts I used to hate and now I can’t imagine my life without? Yeah, that one. He’s in a fucking hospital, Nancy. Steve’s breathing and eating through tubes; will likely be presumed dead,” her voice cracked, but she quickly cleared her throat and continued. “because his parents are assholes who probably don’t even know he’s fighting for his life right now, and I’m not sure will even care when they find out. We’re the only family he actually has, and he’s family for me, too.” Fuck, when did she start crying again? She really needed to learn how to control herself. “I can’t–” She sniffled. “I cannot lose him.”

He was supposed to be her friend, someone she could talk to about anything and anyone, someone who understood her. Don’t get her wrong, he definitely was all that, but he turned out to be much more, and she hated it. She hated that she’d caught feelings for the only nice person she had met in the whole city (before she got other friends, that is), she hated that she couldn’t seem to be as normal near him after realizing that, and she hated especially the fact that it happened so naturally she didn’t even see it coming until it hit her hard.
