Had he been that obvious? Up till now, Edward thought he’d done a fine job concealing his longing for Thomas Jopson. But Sergeant Tozer had just proven him wrong; it had, without his consent, become something more than he could possibly conceal.
And what, exactly, was Edward to do with the offer in the sergeant’s carefully worded reply?
“There’s some as wouldn’t mind more than lookin’, sir.”
With a bruise, a button, and a cigarette or three, once (nearly) in the orlop, once or twice (memorably) in the first lieutenant’s cabin, and (most importantly) without the knowledge of stewards named Thomas — Edward Little and Solomon Tozer come to an arrangement.
