Somewhere in Northern Italy, 1989.
It’s only been three weeks in Italy of Will and Mike's semester abroad in Italy, and it’s safe to say that Will has picked up at least a conversational amount of the language due to studying it in his spare time. Mike, on the other hand, is pretty much only perfectly acquainted with ‘Ciao,’ despite also studying Italian with Will most nights. Mike is most definitely smart, maybe even smarter than Will, Will thinks, but maybe French isn’t his strong suit. Ironic, because he has the mouth of a sailor. Mike always seems distracted when they’re studying French together for some reason Will can’t put his finger on.
OR
Will is helplessly whipped for Mike, and Mike is even more obvious about being pathetically whipped for Will all while they're in Italy.

Max peers at him. “You got something to say, Wheeler?”
Mike shrugs. Then the alcohol gets the best of him. “I’d fuck Spider-Man.”
Will chokes on his water.
Mike’s devised a plan. If he lets himself crush on Spider-Man, then he can work on getting over Will, his roommate and best friend who's clearly uninterested. It's foolproof, really.

What did he think, really?
What did he hope to find in the arms of a Mike Wheeler who's suddenly comfortable enough to go to gay bars in New York? That he was just going to have sex with his first love, who's gotten even prettier than he was six years ago and realise, oh, actually yeah I'm definitely over you?
Yes. Yes, that was what he'd hoped. That's exactly why he'd taken Mike up on the offer, goddammit.
But he can't face palm hard enough to leave a mark right now, because as he mentioned before, Mike is naked, lying on top of him, gently kissing up and down his neck, still warm and sticky inside him. He can't face palm, because he was wrong, and being wrong has never felt so right.
