I've always wondered about that moment where Laurie tells Jo that it’s very likely she and Amy would have switched places in his heart naturally if he was just a little more patient, so here’s an AU where that happens—no confession, no proposal, no Laurie leaving for Europe.
Amy returns home, engaged to be married to Fred Vaughn, and Laurie realises too late that he loves her.
ft. Jo, avid Teddy/Amy shipper who doesn’t understand why her sister can’t just give Fred the old heave-ho, some eventual Jo/Friedrich, and spoiled! insouciant!Laurie (at first). Beth doesn’t die (mostly because I wanted an excuse to write worried Beth/headstrong Amy), and I tried to give her a little of Elizabeth Alcott’s personality, so she’s slightly out of character.

“Right, yes,” the stranger said slowly, tightening the tuck of his towel. He looked indescribably familiar, and Sansa tried not to follow a rivulet of water as it slid past the divot of his hip. “Sorry."
