“One day, you’re going to find a nice lady and settle down with her, just like me and your mother.”
“But what if I never find a girl?”
“I know you will, Phainon.” He laughs, “I expect nothing less from such an outstanding son of mine.”
The next day, Phainon comes home covered in wheat, his arms crossed and pulling a face.
Phainon pouts, “Daaad! I don't like any of the girls here!”
He hums, “Find a girl outside of Aedes Elysiae then.”
“What if I just find a boy instead? They’re way easier to deal with…”
“You aren’t easy to deal with, little spitfire. And, boys can’t love other boys. That’s wrong.”
“Why?”
“That’s how it’s always been. Like how we always plant wheat in the fields, and pray to Oronyx every weekend. Why do we only worship the Time Titan?”
“I dunno…”
“It has always been that way. It’s served us well so far, so,” his dad shrugs, “Why change?”

“If you were truly a man,” Mydei declared, at top volume and apropos of nothing, “you’d fuck me in the ass.”
“Wuh—? Huh?” Phainon fumbled his wooden training sword and nearly dropped it.
This was not how any sane person started a conversation. They were in the public training hall, for gods sake, where Kephale and all their children could witness Phainon having an aneurysm.
Mydei issues a challenge Phainon can’t refuse.
