Then Lillie’s mother, without saying a word, started to walk away, in the same direction they had been walking before running into the stranger. Like clockwork dolls, Lillie fell in right behind her, keeping in perfect step, simply waiting for the other shoe to drop.

She’d never seen a woman like the one standing across from her in the market, talking to Anna. She looked unreal - she had to be seven feet tall, with muscles the size of her head, and the way that comically tiny breastplate barely covered her legs, her abdomen, her, well, breasts...
It looked so obscene that Dorothea slightly understood why the Church refused to allow women to become brawlers.

As he walked, you thought about how much that body must have cost. Billions. Trillions. Every dollar of every drop of blood spilled to form the UAC piggybank, all to keep him alive. You’d seen your fellow soldiers without legs. Without arms. Without hope. Civilians. Families. People who weren’t considered either. All ruined because they couldn’t afford a pair of crutches.
Wordlessly, you raised the double-barreled shotgun and fired it directly at the back of Hayden’s head. The bullets had no effect at all, like they’d vanished, yet another thing teleported away by the UAC for someone else to deal with.
“Save your ammunition,” Hayden said.

Shadow knew what "fun" was, of course. The problem was that for most people, "fun" was always at his expense. It didn't matter how cordially he greeted Silver as the other hedgehog excitedly chattered about how "mondo cool" he was, or how polite he was to Amy even though he still felt ridiculous talking to her after he'd been roped into going to that concert, or how much he tried to show interest in Tails' video game even though he didn't understand it and didn't care.
In the end, they'd never be able to resist joking about him being there at all, even though he thought that was what they wanted. So many jokes about him being a "grouch" or a "Scrooge" or a "humbug" - whoever or whatever those people were, if they even were people, he was starting to really dislike them.
