It's so gentle, just a brush of lips before Eddie pulls back. He feels like he just shot himself into the sun. Like the moment their lips touched he was burnt to ashes. No, it's more than that. Disintegrated somehow. His atoms absorbed into the corona.
There's something about the way Buck is looking at him now. Stunned, sure, but happy. His mouth has fallen open, a surprised, “Oh,” falling out as it pulls into a smile.
“Sorry,” Eddie breathes. But he isn't. He's not sure what he is, but he knows he isn't sorry. That piece of him– it finally shifted into place.

“So, basically, you have a crush,” Maddie says with a smirk.
“What? No! I’ve never had a conversation with him! Hell, I don’t even know what the guy looks like!” Buck insists, turning back to the pasta sauce that’s simmering on the stove. “I’m just saying he has really good taste in books, okay?”
Maddie raises a disbelieving eyebrow. “Really good taste, and really queer taste…”
“And?” Buck scoffs. “There are plenty of ugly, awful gay men in Los Angeles. I just got dumped by one.” He spoons out a bit of the marinara and holds it out to Maddie. “Here, taste this.”
She does, and narrows her eyes slightly. “Mm, more basil I think.”
“Are you sure?” Buck has a taste of his own and concedes, “Yeah, you’re absolutely right.”
“I know,” Maddie says. “I’m right about most things.”
“You’re right about the basil and only the basil.”
