Summary
Canon divergent story set post Episode 5x03: Archie graduates from Basic Training and his best friend is there to support him. There's a lot that's been left unsaid between them in these last few months, things she'd rather leave unspoken if she's being honest. It's just that, in the ten weeks he's been sequestered at boot camp, she's taken to leaving him a series of drunken voicemails divulging things she's never actually meant to confess.

When she turns around, her jaw drops in horror. He’s holding his phone and he has a confused look on his face before his eyes flick up from the screen and over to her face. “Archie, I-” She closes her eyes and shakes her head. “Those are, look it’s nothing.”“You left me eight voicemails?” He cocks his head to the side, “Doesn’t seem like nothing to me.”
“Listen, they’re just drunk dials where I probably just ramble on about a bunch of pointless bull shit. We’re supposed to be talking, right? So let’s talk. We don’t need to waste time listening to some stupid tipsy rants from me okay?” Maybe she remembers the content of some of those voicemails a little better than she lets herself believe.

He can insist that Sabrina’s wrong, but he knows that isn’t going to sink in for Betty the way he wants it to, so he tries something else instead. “Then we focus on the sweet here and now instead.” He vows, his eyes locking with hers intensely. “I’d trade all of that to be right here, right now, with you; even if all we have is this one last night together. ”

What she told her mother too, on occasion, when she asked.
And perhaps she’s being selfish, but with their bleak reality in the district, was it really wrong to hold on to the small glimpses of light?
