"There was someone, when I was younger," Bruce looks down at his hands, sounding almost out of breath when he says, "I think I might have loved him,"
Tim thinks he might have misheard for a second, but that's impossible, because there's no one sitting in the garden but the two of them and Titus. Then, Tim thinks Bruce must have misspoke, but that's also impossible, because Bruce doesn't misspeak.
Which can only mean; I think I might have loved him.
"Him?" Tim whispers for clarification, just to be sure. He's not sure why, but his heart is beating so loudly he can hear it in his ears.
It's so loud in fact, he almost misses the way Bruce chuffs lightly, sounding amused when he replies, "Yes Tim. Him. A man."
(Tim and Bernard get into an argument, Bruce tries to offer some advice.)

"I would never be mad at you for this," Bruce tells him clearly, leaving no room for misunderstanding, blue eyes sharp and clear as they meet Jason's steadily, "I think you know this Jason, deep down. You know I would never blame you for any of this."
Jason's heart is tight, "I'm —"
Bruce places both hands on his shoulders, "Don't apologise. Just breathe with me."
Jason takes a deep breath in, matching Bruce's unshakeable calmness. It's the first time in a long time that Jason feels like he can actually breathe.
(Jason survives Ethiopia and returns home; this is the beginning.)

Summary
Bruce turns the safety back on, but he doesn't put down the gun. Instead, he keeps it in the air, aiming it steadily at the spot he'd just shot at. Despite the mannequin being very much not real, Bruce watches it warily, like it's going to pull out its own weapon in retaliation.
“Look closer,” Bruce says quietly.
Jason frowns, following the invisible red dot at the muzzle of the gun. He has to squint for a moment, trying to work out where in the stuffied body of the mannequin the bullet would've hit, until he realises where Bruce is aiming. Dread fills his gut, an irrational and inexplicable pool of fear congealing disgustingly in every empty crevice of his body.
Bruce is aiming for the head.
(When Jason is thirteen, Bruce teaches him how to shoot a gun.)

Summary
Bruce realises it then with a sudden startle, all the anger and frustration that had been building up over the last couple days freezing under his skin, blood cold.
"You're trying to make me angry…" Bruce carefully says out loud, all the pieces of the puzzle finally coming together, watching the way Jason's shoulders tense at the shift in tone from angry to a calculative calmness, "On purpose?"
Jason's previous expression, one filled with twisted amusement at Bruce's apparent annoyance is immediately replaced with something tragic. His blue eyes grow wide and fearful, and Bruce watches in delayed understanding as the boy takes a fearful step back.
(Jason's change in behavior is cause for concern. Fortunately, Bruce is a pretty good detective — most of the time.)

Summary
It isn't Bruce's fault that the Justice League think he's a villain.
It's the Joker's fault.
Or, after the supposed 'hero' kills Bruce's son, the notorious criminal Batman pays a visit to the Justice League.
The Justice League discover that they don't know nearly as much as they thought about Batman and the Joker.
