Harry and his friends have survived the first two years of Hogwarts, and fully expect this year to be a peaceful one.
We all know that's not going to happen.
In this case, two Death Eaters have decided that it's the perfect time to break out of Azkaban to seek out the Dark Lord somewhere in Albania. These two criminals were the cause of anguish for many of Harry's friends, and it's up to him to keep them from losing it completely.
Not to mention there's still the whole Horcrux thing, and the Goblins have uncovered an ancient ritual that could pinpoint the remaining portions of Voldy's soul, but they have no Horcruxes at the moment, so they're stuck.

Summary
After successfully managing to gain custody of Harry, Remus and Sirius have raised Harry well. He knows that he's loved, and well-treated, and he's friends with Ron and Neville. However, a visit to Gringotts on Harry's tenth birthday to get him confirmed as the heir to the Potter and Black Houses proves that Dumbledore has done something awful to Harry, and they realise they must remain cautious of him.
This leads us to Harry's very well-known first year at Hogwarts, but this time with Draco, Neville, and Hermione by his side.

Just a note: Most of the relationships will start to happen in the third book. It's my plan to work through all the canon books. This first one starts out echoing canon very closely, but will become quite AU after the first few books.

Summary
Inspired by an excerpt from "Another mind game" by may_may_o_o.
Harry finds himself trapped in a storage cupboard during his eighth year after trying to escape the students who have been vying for his attention. Memories of the Dursley's and the cupboard under the stairs force him into a state of panic and that's how Malfoy finds him curled into a ball, rocking in the dark.
Basically just Harry having a panic attack and Malfoy happening to be in the wrong (right) place at the wrong (right) time.

There he finds a third year student named Leona Black, who surprises him with the knowledge that their parents were best friends when they attended Hogwarts. He latches on to the chance to learn more about his mom and dad, and the foundation of a new friendship is born.

Harry hadn't put much thought into it. He knew there had been a war. A war that his parents and a great number of others had died in. Any passing thought about their friends or people they knew when they were alive had been quickly dismissed, especially when Hagrid didn't mention any of them. Then again, the mere mention of James and Lily made Hagrid start to tear up, so maybe that was the reason why.
Leona suddenly stood. “Wait here, I'll be right back!”
Harry watched, completely mystified, as Leona sprinted up to the girls' dorms, returning minutes later with a thick, leather book in her arms. She was beaming as she sat down next to him again and opened the cover to reveal the first page, turning the book so Harry could see as well.Series
