The mark of an illuminated beast is but one of the highest honors any mortal could bare. It was important, reserved only for lovers, family, and important individuals, and often served as protection. So, it only seemed natural for Xiao to place his mark upon Lumine, solely for protection.
At least, that's the lie he tells himself, a carefully constructed lie to hide the feelings underneath.
