Summary
When Regulus is eleven, he meets Harry Potter, the only recently turned up, distant cousin of James Potter. The first surprise is that, despite being a Potter, he's sorted into Slytherin. The second surprise is that he manages to convince Regulus to prank Sirius for being an ass about his sorting. The third is that he turns out to be an amazing friend.
The surprises don't end there—quite the opposite, really. The biggest might just be that Harry refuses to give up on him, and how it changes everything. His worldview, the relationship to his brother; his whole future.
Scratch that, it's the Master of Death-thing. It's definitely the Master of Death-thing.In the end, though, Regulus finds he's rather fond of surprises.

“Thanks, man,” Bucky tells him, sounding almost shy. It might be the light from the commercial playing, but Sam thinks his cheeks look a little pink. It’s horribly endearing. “To be honest, I didn’t realize you were into guys.”
“I--what?” Sam sputters. How the hell does Bucky know that? Did he catch Sam staring? Sam feels his heartbeat picking up and closes his eyes to try and calm himself. “Uh, yeah. I am. How did you work that out?”
Bucky gives him a sheepish grin. “I think the part where you just, you know, offered to help me jerk off was a pretty big hint. I don’t know many straight fellas that would be up for that.”

Everything stops. Parker drops from her beam, landing in a crouch on the floor, but even that doesn’t make a sound.
Eliot exhales sharply, “Shit.”
