    “It is.” Jiung triumphantly shoves the half into Intak’s hand. “Now, eat.”

    He breaks off a chunk of his half and pops it into his mouth, sugar crystals melting against his tongue in a way so satisfying that Jiung can’t help but happily sigh. It’s exactly how he’d dreamt—as soft and pillowy as he wishes his pillow was, as sweet as the sensation of being remembered and thought of.

    OR, It’s just past midnight, 12:08 on the dot, and all Jiung can think about are doughnuts.

    Everyone knows that Yoon Stephen Keeho has a boyfriend. He's made sure of that.

    If soft launching your significant other were a sport, then Keeho would be an Olympiad, referencing his boyfriend at every turn. His boyfriend features in his Instagram posts, features in his BeReals, features in the small talk he makes in class. What makes him identifiable as Keeho's boyfriend, however, is the fact that he's never identifiable – always cropped out or otherwise obscured; his name never mentioned.

    It's clear that Keeho enjoys it deeply. He probably thinks he and his mystery boyfriend are the spectacle of the semester, that conceited bitch. The worst thing is he's right.

    (People who can't mind their own business speculate about who Yoon Keeho's boyfriend might be. Meanwhile, the boyfriend in question is just grappling with some things of his own.)

    Jiung graduated from his teaching degree, got a job at a decent school, found an apartment and a roommate. He bought vegetables semi-regularly and mostly managed to eat them before they went soft and weird. He went out with his colleagues at least once a month and even went on a couple of the blind dates they set up for him. He managed to make it so he never wore the same shirt twice in a row, and hoarded his favourite board pens in the locked draw in his classroom. He learnt the kids’ names and started to recognise which parents to watch out for. He bought a house plant and named it Colonel Sanders.

    He is kind of fucking miserable.
