Summary
By the grace of the God Emperor, most humans have some kind of soulmark. While it is rare for soul mates to be able to reach each other in the toiling masses, many hope for the unlikely blessing of a match. They pray for their fated partner to be born into the same hive as them, on a level close enough to make a relationsship possible. Some, in childish fantasies, pray for their partner to be of higher standing and still love them - of a fancy lady or gentleman to find them and take them up into the spires, if not as spouse, then maybe as mistress or servant.
Whoever is able too, pays to be entered in registries that promise to match soulmarks. Billions uppon billions do so without success.Of course, there are much more comprehensive records in the hands of the Inquisition. What better way to catch heretics than to use the one thing they are destined to care about?
