He falls into a daze, idly watching his shell shift colour every time he turns it, from blue to pink to green, and shifts slightly.
Hum.
He pauses, shell held in front of him, staring but not seeing. His head frills twitch. Had he imagined a sound?
Hum.
But– no. A vibration? He strains his senses to hear it again, but it doesn’t return. A few minutes pass, and he begins to think he’s losing his mind, but then–
Hum.
A very faint vibration in the water. So faint. Harry wouldn’t have heard it at all had he not been sitting still.
Breathing slowly, he places a hand near the cave’s edge, poking his head out and looking straight down.
A void greets him, but he focuses.
Hum.
There it is. His head frills perk, locking on the sound.
It’s a deep, echoing hum. The pitch is unlike anything he’s heard.
Should he answer it? He can’t even discern its intent. But he's so curious.Or: Mermaid!Harry is finally free to roam the ocean. In his search for a forever pod, escaping creatures of the deep and making sure of his survival, he encounters a creature he knows he should avoid.
