“I wouldn’t hurt you, little omega.” Was it her imagination or had his voice gone even lower? If she could get herself to look at his eyes, would the pupils be blown, all darkness running through? Would he command her next? If he ordered her to present, would she be able to withstand him? A need she didn’t recognize and definitely didn’t want, rose up within her, hard and fast, egging her on. Take off your clothes, omega. Get on your knees, omega. Show me your neck, omega. Let me take, fuck, bite, omega. She felt her scent glands pulse, that soft, sore spot between her shoulder and her neck, and then the memory of teeth dragging over it, trying to bite what she didn’t want bitten. The sharpness of the memory cleared the fog in her brain and she blinked.

Emma Nolan is proud to be an omega and a nurse. Past experience has made her wary of alphas but when she meets Brendon Park, the orthopedic attending and alpha, she's unable to get his scent out of her head. Park has been haunted by a sweet omega-scent all over the hospital. When he finds the omega in question, he never wants to let her go, but Emma needs time and to learn how to trust, both herself and her alpha, before she is ready to let herself be taken in.

    Summary

There was no reason for him to intervene. They didn’t know each other. Not in any meaningful way. A brief exchange in a stairwell did not justify involvement. She might not even remember him. From her perspective, he would be a stranger—a large, older man in a car pulling up unprompted in the dark, in the rain. There were variables there he couldn’t control. Unknowns in how she would react, how she would interpret it.

    He didn’t like unknowns.

He also didn’t like the image of her standing there, soaked through, waiting in the rain.

The irritation came quickly—not at her, but at the situation. At himself.

“Fuck,” he said under his breath.

    He signaled left.

Or, the one where an orthopedic surgeon who hates unpredictability becomes obsessed with the one variable he can’t control.
