It was Ling who spoke, or Greed, or both of them. Lan Fan’s breath hitched in their throat as his fingers tugged at the collar of their robe, baring the white skin of their right shoulder.
“Be good to us,” he bade, and Lan Fan screwed their eyes shut. Beneath the roar of his own desire, Greed could feel Lan Fan’s will weakening to their own wants — their desire to please Ling, their compulsion to obey him, their bone-deep need to fulfill his every whim.
But this wasn’t a whim. It had never been a mere fancy.
Lan Fan was, and always would be, the one thing he treasured as much as all of the kingdom of Xing.
And whatever Ling wanted, so did Greed.

Their dark hair is pulled into a loose braid of Edward’s design, and their skin shines with sweat, though they show no other signs of exertion. Their narrow eyes appraise him — calm, but for the edge of danger that undercuts their every expression.
“Well, runt?” they say, lifting their hands at their sides. Their palms sprout long blades with wide bellies and tasseled hilts — a pair of twin dāo meant for dual-wielding. “Are you gonna make the first move, or what?”
Edward grins and digs his heels in, and in a burst of energy, he charges forward.
