Summary
On the ice, everything is clean.
Edges carve truth into something cold and certain. No hesitation, no softness, no room for anything that might break.
Mikasa skates to feel alive, to outrun the ghosts that follow her in quiet moments, to prove that she can still hold herself together when everything else has been taken. Hockey is noise, impact, heat. Something loud enough to drown out memory.
Annie skates because she has to.
Perfection is demanded of her. Because every movement is watched, measured, controlled. Because if she falters, there are consequences waiting off the ice: sharp, unseen, and far more unforgiving than any blade.
They were never meant to meet like this, collision instead of choreography, friction instead of grace.
But somewhere between rivalry and recognition, between bruises and quiet glances, something begins to shift. Something warm, dangerous.
Because ice remembers every fall.
And some things don’t shatter when they hit the ground.
Some things, impossibly, learn how to melt.
