    Summary

Castiel wants a traditional Christmas. Dean wants to keep the angel at arms length. Sam wants his brother to pull his head out of his ass.

It turns out that what Dean really wants, and what he says he wants, are two very different things. If he can just admit his feelings, and accept that he deserves to be happy, then maybe his most secret Christmas wish will come true after all.

    Summary

Dean was still having problems looking Castiel in the eye, and if he was honest with himself, he knew that that was his own fault. So when it happened, he simply added that to the pile of blame he shouldered for himself, and it barely registered against the crippling weight of the guilt he already carried for the things he’d done to the angel. Had he been more comfortable being close to Castiel, had he been able to talk to the man, had he just been able to be in the same room as him, then perhaps they could have avoided a whole heap of difficulty.

It all spiralled from him refusing to accept Castiel’s help, pushing the angel away to mask his own frustration and humiliation at the things he’d done. When Castiel offered to heal him of the injuries he himself had inflicted, Dean said no, placing himself back into a purgatory of sorts, ice pack pressed to his face doing little to ease the pain or the swelling, but plenty to keep him from having to look at his brother or his friend. But Castiel hadn’t let it go.

    Summary

Dean has a very bad day. He fights with his dad, who's drunk, again. And then he runs over a gorgeous blue eyed bicycle courier, who seems to have a death wish. And then a devious nurse extracts a promise from him that makes him stand up to his responsibilities. In the process he discovers a man with a wicked smile, a vicious temper and a bizarre sense of humour.

Castiel was already bruised before Dean ever got the chance to knock him off his bike. Haunted by his past, terrified of getting too close to anyone, he keeps people back with a sharp temper and surly attitude. The accident leaves him vulnerable in more ways than one, but in Dean he finds a humour to match his own, and a patience to soothe his sharp edges.

Just as they begin to test whether they're really ready for the chance they've been given, all of the reasons Castiel had for keeping people at arms length return to haunt them both, forcing them to fight hard for the fragile happiness they found when neither man was looking where they were going.
