“Is it nice?” Renjun asks, still holding the ladle for the malatang aloft. He looks expectant and a little anxious, the way one does when introducing a friend to their favourite movie, or book, and the last thing Yangyang wants is to disappoint him.
And so, despite the burning, numbing sensation in his mouth, Yangyang swallows everything down and nods enthusiastically. “It’s nice,” he lies, blinking back tears. “I really like it a lot.”
It’s the right call. Renjun beams at him widely, snaggletooth on full display, and Yangyang feels a drop of warmth land and spread in his chest.
Somehow, he knows it has nothing to do with the soup at all.
(Or: They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. If so, then Renjun’s must be made out of cast iron steel, but Yangyang will eat as much hotpot as he can to make him happy.)

Summary
“I have a name other than Your Highness and Your Majesty.” The prince finishes up his sketch. “I do not mind if you call me by it, we are the same age after all.”
“That is true. It feels rather improper to refer to the prince so casually.”
“Then do not treat me like a prince.” The prince walks up to the painter to return his drawing pencils.
“Treat me…like a friend.”
Yangyang’s impromptu visit to a free art exhibit leads him to dreaming about his past life and revisiting his memories of a painter named Renjun.
