Work Text:

“Come on Blasty, it’ll be fun!” Eijirou grabbed his boyfriends’ hand and pulled him towards the door. It was the final night of the carnival and there was no way they were going to miss it. The carnival was always filled with different American foods, and Eijirou needed to try everything at least once.

“Shitty hair I said no. I have studying to do.” Katsuki yanked his hand away and walked back to his desk. He didn’t usually mind skipping out on studying to hang out with his boyfriend, but finals were coming up soon. There was no way he would let anyone get a higher rank than him.

“Katsu please, it’s the last night!” Eijirou jutted his lip out in a pout and clasped his hands together. He really wanted to be able to see his boyfriend smile. It was almost the beginning of summer break, and the carnival was almost over.

“I don’t fucking understand why they would have the carnival this early anyway. My answer is still no though. Have fun.” Katsuki sat back down at his desk and picked up his book. Anymore of Eijirou begging and he might just give in.

“We haven’t gone out on a date in a while though. I was hoping to treat you to that spicy ramen you like.” Eijirou’s voice grew softer and he ran his fingers through his hair. He knew he was close to breaking his boyfriends’ iron will. They’ve been dating for close to six months, and he could still read Katsuki like an open book.

“Spicy ramen you say?” Katsuki perked his head up slightly and sighed. This is exactly what Eijirou wanted to happen. He put his book back down and sighed. Food always got him to say yes, especially if he wasn’t the one paying. “Fine shitty hair, let’s go to the carnival.”

“Woo!” Eijirou ran over to his boyfriend and picked him up. He couldn’t wait to enjoy the carnival. There would be food, games, some sideshow acts, and a few rides even. He didn’t much care for anyone else that would be there, he just wanted to spend time with the person who mean the most to him.

“Eijirou, if you don’t put me down, I will blast you.” Katsuki raised his hand and made a tiny explosion. The problem with threats were, Eijirou never listened to them anyway. Not when he knows that Katsuki would never hurt him on purpose. He really did become a softie after they started dating.

“You don’t scare me Blasty. Let’s go!” Eijirou put him down and grabbed his hand. Effectively dragging Katsuki out of the dorm, and barely stopping long enough to close it. In a matter of minutes, they were coming up to the first set of food vendors.

The first food vendor they stopped at happened to be the ramen shop's stall. At least now Katsuki would be a little more willing to stay until the end for the fireworks. Katsuki ordered the spicy ramen while Eijirou himself ordered the beef style. He still never figured out how his boyfriend could handle something so spicy on almost a daily basis.

"At least you held your word. I would've gone home if we didn't get ramen first." Katsuki set his bowl down on the table before sitting down and grabbing his chopsticks. Spicy foods were always his favorite, and luckily Eijirou would always buy spicy things if it was a treat.

"I wouldn't let you leave that easily." Eijirou sat down across from Katsuki and placed his hand under his chin. He knew his boyfriend enjoyed the carnival, but he also liked studying. If Katsuki had to pick, he'd always choose studying over fun. Eijirou was the person who always convinced his boyfriend to take a break.

"I fucking would." Katsuki started eating his ramen, sighing in pleasure. The taste was always delicious no matter how times he's eaten it. It's a shame that the carnival only lasts for a week. It's the only time he can get this type of ramen. Everyone always says that it's the spiciest around, and it's still not spicy enough for Katsuki.

"Aw come on Blasty. You know you're having fun." Eijirou smiled and picked up a noodle. Instead of the noodle ending up in his mouth, it landed on his face making Katsuki laugh. When Katsuki laughed, it felt like a part of him has died and gone to heaven. He sounded like an Angel, and Eijirou wanted to hear him laugh more often.

"Of fucking course, it's carnival time." Katsuki stared at his bowl of ramen, his face beet red. He doesn't usually laugh, but when he does it's usually because Eijirou does something stupid. Such as dropping food on his face instead of eating it like a normal human. He finished his ramen and stood up, returning the bowl to the vendor.

"What do you want to do next?" Eijirou finished his ramen and looked up at his boyfriend. The first thing he wanted to do was win Katsuki a stuffed goldfish. This way he can keep it on his bed to sleep with when Eijirou himself couldn't be there.

"Walk around obviously. It's not a date if we just sit here." Katsuki placed his hands on the edge of the table and waited. He was reluctant to leave his studies, but now that he was out of the dorms, he couldn't wait to enjoy the carnival. He enjoyed playing the games, eating spicy snacks, and watching the side shows.

“You’re right, you’re right.” Eijirou stood up and grabbed his empty ramen bowl. He grabbed Katsuki’s hand and pulled him towards the ramen vendor so he could return the bowl. “Where would you like to go first? We could play games, oh or we could go see some shows.”

“The shows don’t start until later, so games it is. I’m going to kick your ass in everything.” Katsuki smiles and pulls Eijirou towards the game stalls. The first game they play is ring toss, and Katsuki wins spectacularly, each ring landing around the bottles without fault. He picks a small keychain with a soccer ball on it, and puts it in his pocket.

The next game they pick is a ball toss, where on the first try Katsuki knocks down all three milk jugs. Eijirou’s too obsessed with trying to knock all the jugs over that he doesn’t notice the small crocodile plush in his boyfriend’s hand. It wasn’t until they finally decided to try bowling that Eijirou finally won a game. As skilled as Katsuki was with everything else, bowling just wasn’t his strong suit and he kept throwing the ball down the gutter.

“Kick my ass in everything huh?” Eijirou smiled smugly as he held the giant goldfish plush in his arms. It was huge, probably about 5 feet long, and Katsuki was pissed. Goldfish were his favorite animal, and he was hoping to win it for himself.

“I beat you in the ring toss, the ball toss, even the fishing game, how the fuck could I lose to you in bowling?” Katsuki grumbled and held the small crocodile closer to his chest. He was planning to give it to Eijirou during the fireworks, but now he was thinking of keeping it. Just to see what Eijirou’s reaction would be when Katsuki didn’t give it to him.

“I guess I’m just that good. Come on, the fireworks start soon.” Eijirou grabbed Katsuki’s hand and pulled him towards the hill. Usually nobody sat on the hill because the fireworks were closer to the river. As much as they were beautiful, they were loud and they hurt Katsuki’s ears. Plus, the hill would give them a little bit of privacy instead of having everyone around them.

“Stupid fucking shitty hair. Stop being cocky.” Katsuki let off a little explosion and Eijirou just laughed, tugging Katsuki faster. When they got to the hill, they walked to the top and sat down. You could see all the stalls, and all the people. Eijirou held Katsuki’s hand tighter while Katsuki moved closer and laid his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder.

“I’m not cocky, just happy.” Eijirou kissed Katsuki’s cheek gently before staring at the sky. The first firework set off was green, followed by red and white as well. Some went higher than others, some were smaller than others, and there were some fireworks that exploded in bursts that looked like rain.

Katsuki placed a hand on Eijirou’s face, turning his boyfriend to face him. Eijirou leans in slowly, placing his lips on Katsuki’s gently and rubbing his thumb across the back of Katsuki’s hand. Katsuki rubbed his thumb across Eijirou’s cheek and kissed his boyfriend slowly. It felt like they were the only people in the world, happy and content with what they have.

“I love you, Katsuki.” Eijirou whispered quietly against his boyfriend’s lips. He’s never said it out loud before, only when Katsuki was asleep. He could feel his heart racing, and he felt Katsuki move back slowly, but not moving his hand. He kept his ministrations of rubbing his thumb across Eijirou’s cheek.

Katsuki’s face was red, and he let Eijirou’s words seep in. Nobody other than his parents have ever said it, but he knew Eijirou meant it. They’d been friends for almost two years now, and they’ve been dating for almost six months. Katsuki leaned in again and kissed Eijirou quickly, whispering a quick I love you too.

The fireworks died down, one every fifteen seconds or so now. They sat there in quiet, Katsuki’s head on Eijirou’s shoulder while Eijirou’s arms were around Katsuki’s waist. Once the fireworks ended and the couple stood up, Eijirou handed Katsuki the giant goldfish plush. “I want you to have it.”

Katsuki held the plush in his arms, it was almost as big as he was. He handed the small crocodile plush over before turning away and walking towards the dorms. Stupid shitty hair for being so cute sometimes. Eijirou caught up quickly before sliding his hand into Katsuki’s.

If the giant goldfish plush was on Katsuki’s bed, nobody ever mentioned it. They didn’t want to invoke the wrath of Katsuki when he could kick everyone’s ass. Eijirou carries around the crocodile plush in his pocket, because he believes it gives him good luck.
