i hate to say i told you so (they love to say they told me so)

Summary:

“i don’t care what your parents say, i won’t let you go.”

“don’t want you to.”

aka; yoongi gets grounded and hoseok won't let him go, no matter what his parents say.

Notes:

the title is from paramore's new BANGING song 'told you so.'

just some info: this is part of the 'pictures of you' universe; which means this is the same yoongi and hoseok from 'he's so cool.' the whole concept of 'pictures of you' is random fics from the same universe. but they're not chronological because i am not smart enough for that.

anyway yeah, enjoy yoonseok being in love.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“min yoongi, i told you i don’t want you to see that boy anymore.”

yoongi rolls his eyes.

of course his mom would say this, the same god damn thing she’s been saying for the past two weeks. he wouldn’t have to deal with this shit if hoseok didn’t insist on meeting his parents, even though yoongi told him it was a bad idea. he wishes he could tell him he told him so, but his parents had forbid him from leaving the house and confiscated his phone.

yoongi blatantly ignores whatever his mom says throughout the tense dinner. it’s all the same anyway: yoongi picks at his food, his mom tells him how bad hoseok is, his dad is silently fuming by her side, and his younger brother looks away. for the past two weeks dinner has gone on like a play, line by line and word for word.

afterwards, yoongi leaves his half-empty plate at the table and jogs back upstairs. he needs to get away before he snaps or cries. and he refuses to cry in front of his family. they don’t deserve to see him like that.

he makes sure to close the door softly, not wanting to create another reason for his mother to nag him. he falls onto his bed face-first and sighs into his pillow. instinctively, he reaches out underneath his pillow for his phone. he pulls away with a groan when he remembers his parents took it.

god, it makes him feel like a child. his parents taking his phone away and fucking grounding him.

he wants to talk to hoseok. they haven’t been away from each other for this long. even when they were kids, he and hoseok had sleepovers almost every weekend. now it’s edging on week two and one day since the last time they have spoken. yoongi doesn’t even need to see his face, he just wants to hear his voice. anything besides the silence.

he’s come to realize, sitting in his room with too much free time, that he might be a little dependent on hoseok. he doesn’t need hoseok, per se, he just feels empty without him. hoseok keeps him grounded, pulls him up from the hole of anxiety his mind sucks him into on occasion.

he’s so caught up in missing hoseok that he doesn’t notice his door open.

namjoon debates on whether what he’s about to do is right. but once he sees yoongi’s sullen form sprawled on his bed, face in a pillow, he doesn’t think twice. his parents are being overprotective anyway, yoongi is an eighteen year old who can make his own decisions. namjoon knows hoseok is a good guy: he’s energetic and sweet but most importantly he cares about yoongi. namjoon can see it in his eyes whenever he stares at yoongi, arm around his waist.

“hey yoongi.” namjoon sits by his brother on the bed.

yoongi turns his head and makes a grunt of acknowledgment.

“don’t tell mom or dad, but here,” namjoon pulls out a phone from his pocket, handing it over to yoongi. “call hoseok, sneak out, just be back before mom and dad wake up.”

yoongi doesn’t hug him, because they aren’t affectionate like that. but he does grab namjoon’s shoulder for a brief second before letting go. namjoon nods and leaves his bedroom.

yoongi listens for any sign of his parents before turning on the phone - his phone. yoongi can’t help but smile.

at least a dozen texts come through, his phone buzzing nonstop against his hands. all from hoseok, varying from jokey to worry. yoongi decides to look through some of the latest.

[seok]

yoongi where the fuck are you

[seok]

im really worried yoongi

[seok]

if ur mad at me fine just tell me ur okay

[seok]

baby stop joking im fucking serious

[seok]

fuck baby you better be okay i swear to god if something happened to you…

[seok]

yoongi i love you

guilt rushes through yoongi. he texts back right away.

[yoongi]

hoseok can i call you?

yoongi doesn’t have to wait for long. in the next second his phone is lighting up with an incoming call from hoseok. he answers right away, propping himself up on his forearms.

“yoongi, what the fuck is going on?”

“i’m okay hoseok. my parents just took my phone away and grounded me.”

“ what? why?” hoseok asks, shocked.

“they don’t want me to see you anymore,” yoongi whispers. it hurts, saying it out loud. makes it a little more real.

there’s silence from hoseok’s end. yoongi gnaws on his bottom lip. he’s worried that hoseok is angry. that maybe he’ll agree with his parents and break up with him. yoongi would surely die if that happened.

yoongi can’t take the silence much more. “i’m sorry, don’t be mad.”

hoseok lets out a breathy laugh into the phone. “i’m not mad at you. i’m mad at your parents. do they not like me or something?”

yoongi wishes he knew. the day hoseok met them went fine. hoseok was the perfect gentleman. he even bought yoongi’s mom flowers. he has no idea what they saw in hoseok that made them dislike him so much.

“i have no idea, hoseok. but i can’t talk long, namjoon gave me my phone back.”

"can you sneak out? we can meet at the park.”

“yeah, i just have to be back before morning.” yoongi gets up and grabs a jacket from his closet. he slings it over his arms while listening to hoseok.

“should i come pick you up?”

"no no,” yoongi shakes his head furtively, “it’ll wake them up. i’ll just walk.”

“yoongi, it’s dark out and you’re alone. i don’t want you doing that.”

“this is the only way, okay? i can handle myself i promise.” yoongi slides open his window, careful not to make too much noise. with his phone wedged between his shoulder and ear, he swings one leg onto the veranda. making sure he won’t slip, he swings the other leg over.

“fine fine, i’ll see you in a few, ” hoseok sighs.

“yeah, see you.”

yoongi shoves the phone in his jacket pocket. once his whole body is safely on the veranda, he crawls over to the edge and looks over. the drop isn’t that bad, and god knows yoongi has done this more than once. he sits on the ledge, and with one push, drops to the ground. he holds in a grunt when he hits.

he takes a final glance at his open window and starts walking to the park.

hoseok is already there, sitting on a swing, when yoongi gets there. the minute he sees him he gets up and rushes over to him. he wraps him in a hug, nose nuzzled in the top of his hair.

“god, i really thought something bad happened yoongi.” the words come out muffled, but yoongi can still hear the worry in his tone.

“i’m sorry, i begged them to let me tell you what was going on but they wouldn’t let me.”

hoseok pulls back from the hug and lets yoongi go. even in the dark, hoseok’s smile is so bright. yoongi can’t help but smile back, a hand coming up to curl around hoseok’s chin.

“i love you, hoseok.”

hoseok leans in and kisses him. one hand wraps around yoongi’s waist and the other on the side of his head, thumb rubbing behind his ear. yoongi groans into his mouth at the feeling.

they break away for air soon after. hoseok’s hands stay where they are, idly rubbing circles into his skin.

“do you want to go to mcdonalds?”

yoongi giggles. then he laughs, and before he knows it he’s sobbing. holding on to hoseok’s arms, he’s doubling over and crying into the night. hoseok just lets him, simply running his hands down his sides as comfort.

“i really missed you,” yoongi says once he’s stopped sobbing. he sniffles once or twice and wipes his eyes with his jacket sleeve. “and i really want mcdonalds.”

“that’s my boy.”

after hoseok pays for their food, they drive back to the park. they leave the lights on while they sit, the radio on low.

yoongi shoves a handful of fries into his mouth. he barely ate dinner in his haste to get away from his parents. hoseok watches him with fondness, a glisten in his eyes only reserved for yoongi. the boy he’s been in love with since they were kids.

he’s so fucking lucky.

“whatcha lookin’ at?” yoongi muffles through a full mouth. he’s staring at hoseok with quirked eyebrows.

“you.”

yoongi blushes and looks away. fondness leaks from hoseok’s voice and it’s so overwhelming. yoongi’s never been good at expressing, or dealing, with feelings.

“gross.”

hoseok laughs. he tosses his empty food bag in the backseat and wraps an arm around yoongi’s shoulders. he pulls him closer, nearly crushing him against the gear shift.

“i don’t care what your parents say, i won’t let you go.”

“don’t want you to.”

yoongi forgets about his fries and leans into hoseok. he wraps his arms around his middle and breathes in hoseok’s smell. clean, with a hint of wet leaves. like home.

“i love you, yoongi. one day i want to fucking marry you.”
