Amortentia

Summary:

Hizashi might enjoy being kissed by Shouta if he wasn't sure there was something wrong.

Work Text:

“Who can tell me what this potion is?”

Hizashi frowned down at the pearly-looking surface of the potion set down before them, trying to figure out what it was. Potions wasn’t exactly his strongest subject, but he always liked to try. A strange scent wafted from it--a mixture of things that should not smell good together but they did anyways. Freshly-baked cookies, a salty ocean breeze, broom polish, and--

Hizashi’s face flushed a bit as he recognized one particular scent, the familiar, forest-y scent of Shouta’s deodorant or cologne or whatever it was that he used, and he instantly knew what the potion must be.

“It’s amortentia,” he blurted out, and the professor shot him a look, clearly not pleased that he hadn’t raised his hand. Again. “Sorry. But it’s the most powerful love potion in the world, right?”

“Correct.” Professor Gilde yanked his sleeves up before stirring the potion, eyes narrowed in thought. “Can you tell me how you knew?”

“Well, I just know that it’s supposed to smell like whatever attracts you,” Hizashi answered. The girl next to him snickered, but Professor Gilde merely nodded before going on to explain the other recognizable traits of amortentia, before assigning it for them to make. Hizashi gave a low groan as he flipped open his potions textbook and began to follow the directions. Potions was cool, but the actual potion-making was tedious.

It especially didn’t help that every time he added an ingredient it started to smell more and more like Shouta.

“Think I could use this against Mino?” He heard Aya ask as he stirred the concoction counter-clockwise.

“Don’t be stupid, you’d get in trouble before you could even try,” Ken answered.

This probably wasn’t the best idea. Having your students brew the most powerful love potion in the world could only lead to a disaster, especially when someone was already planning on using it on someone. Hizashi added in the shellings of a oak nut and tried his hardest not to inhale the scent the potion was giving off.

The class passed, for the most part, smoothly, and by the end of it Hizashi had brewed a near-perfect amortentia, to his surprise. The professor collected vials from the entire class and dismissed them.

As soon as he did, Hizashi grabbed his stuff and made his way quickly to the Great Hall, telling a few people ‘hello’ as he passed them. When he reached the Great Hall, he saw Shouta was already eating lunch.

“We had to make amortentia today,” Hizashi groaned, sitting across from Shouta and depositing his bag on the floor. He technically wasn’t supposed to be sitting at the Gryffindor table, but the teachers have long since given up on trying to make him stop.

“Because that’s a great idea,” Shouta snorted. He suddenly ducked his head as a jinx went flying towards him. It instead blasted into someone else’s bag and scattered their papers everywhere. “Oh, come on, that wasn’t even trying to be subtle.”

“It is the deciding match over who’ll be competing against Hufflepuff for the final,” Hizashi said, “and you know Ravenclaws don’t fuck around.”

“You are surprisingly fine with not making it to the deciding match.” Shouta took a bite of his sandwich. “Gotten over it already?”

“It’s alright. We fought hard.”

“The final score was 20 to 470.” Shouta pointed out.

“We tried to fight hard.”

“You flew around for ten straight minutes doing nothing because Ravenclaw left no chances for anyone else to even touch the Quaffle.”

“Please stop dragging me.”

Shouta snorted, before shoving his plate towards Hizashi. “Here, I don’t want it.”

Hizashi shoved it back. “You need to eat for the big match.”

“It’s on Saturday. I’ll eat Saturday.”

“Eat now,” came a new voice, and they both glanced up to see Tensei crossing his arms and giving Shouta a disappointed look. “Come on, Shouta, we talked about this.”

There were four things scary in life--insects, falling from your broom, your spell backfiring onto you and Iida Tensei giving you a disappointed look. While most people in their year had different opinions on what exactly was scary, everyone agreed that Iida Tensei being disappointed in you wasn’t only sad, it was also terrifying and you need to correct whatever you were doing immediately, which Shouta did by piling more food onto his plate. “Alright, fine.”

“I heard rumors we’re making amortentia in potions. Is it true?” Tensei sat down next to Shouta, fixing Hizashi with a questioning stare.

“Yep.” Hizashi balanced his chin on his fist. “Ready for the match tomorrow?”

“Of course!” Tensei grinned. “You ready to commentate?”

“I was born ready!” Hizashi cheered. He loved commenting on matches even more than he loved playing them.

“You know,” said Tensei, “it’s a shame you can’t commentate on your own matches, because you would’ve made the Slytherin vs Ravenclaw match actually exciting to watch. Or, at least, listen to.”

“Stop wrecking me like this!” Hizashi cried dramatically as Shouta and Tensei high-fived.

Shouta and Hizashi walked to their next class together, which was Transfiguration. Hizashi talked the entire time while Shouta occasionally replied, and by the time they got to the classroom everyone else was already inside.

“What did your amortentia smell like to you?” Shouta asked, sounding a bit curious, though he mostly looked disinterested. Hizashi tried not to think about what he was smelling now, and said,

“Oh, stuff like cookies and broom polish.”

“Hmm,” Shouta hummed.

“What are we working on, today?”

“We’re still doing color transformation,” Shouta said, before waving his wand and turning Hizashi’s hair red. Hizashi pouted and muttered the incantation, trying to turn Shouta’s eyebrows purple but only succeeding in making Shouta’s eyelashes grow to two times their natural length, which Shouta fixed easily and silently.

Shouta was extremely skilled with nonverbal spells, whereas Hizashi had to say everything out loud. It was much easier, and he didn’t really see why he needed to be able to perform spells nonverbally.

By the time the lesson was over, Shouta had managed to recolor Hizashi enough to look like an entirely different person and the most Hizashi had achieved on changing Shouta’s appearance was making the light smattering of freckles on his nose blue. Reverting back to their normal appearances, they waved goodbye and went off to their separate classes.

It wasn’t often that their potions professor and Head of House visited them in the Slytherin common room, but when he did, it was usually for a serious matter.

This was no exception.

“It seems that a vial of amortentia is missing from the drawer of the sixth-year Slytherins,” Professor Gilde told the assembled students. They exchanged glances. “I know who’s was stolen, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that was the person who took it. Step forward now and confess, and you won’t receive any punishment.”

When nobody spoke, someone raised their hand. “Professor, can’t you just summon it?”

“I’d prefer if someone was honest enough to admit to what they have done.” The potions master crossed his arms. “When I find out who took it, proper punishment will be dealt. Go to bed, now.”

Hizashi wondered who could’ve stolen the vial, before remembering Aya discussing using it against Mino from Hufflepuff. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but that was the only culprit he could think of.

The next morning, Hizashi sat with Shouta and Tensei at the Gryffindor table again and told them about the missing vial.

“Anyone could’ve stolen it, really,” Tensei said when Hizashi finished. “It’s just a question of which one was stolen and who they’re going to use it on.”

“Probably the one that looks the clearest. The clearer and shinier it is, the better it works.” Shouta watched Hizashi squirt ketchup all over his eggs and hashbrowns with distaste. “You are disgusting.”

“You are not allowed to say anything, you dip your bread in your coffee! Who wants soggy bread?”

“Who wants soggy hashbrowns?” Shouta shot back.

“I want soggy hashbrowns!”

“Disgusting.”

“Hey,” Hizashi pointed at Shouta rather aggressively with his fork, “If I remember correctly, you genuinely enjoy the taste of pineapple-on-pizza. You, good sir, are truly the disgusting one.”

“You two are a married couple, I swear to god,” Tensei sighed.

Hizashi grinned in response, thinking it would be nice if he could marry Shouta. What would that life be like? They both wanted to be Aurors, and Hizashi wanted to become a wizarding radio host as well. If they achieved their ambitions, they’d get to work together to catch Dark Wizards and the like. Maybe they’d own a cat. He’d take care of all the household charms because Shouta was honestly terrible at those and--

“Are you going to swing by for the party later on?” Tensei’s voice broke through Hizashi’s thoughts like a Bludger. “Obligatory Quidditch party, you know, celebrating our win before we’ve actually won and all that stuff.”

“Of course I will! I’m supporting you guys through and through. If Slytherin can’t get in, Gryffindor’s the next best thing!”

“I’m sure the others in your House would like to disagree,” Shouta murmured, sipping from his goblet.

“I think a few Hufflepuffs are coming by, too,” Tensei said, ignoring Shouta’s negativity.

“Gryffindor parties are famous like that,” Hizashi said, “of course they’re gonna show up.”

“They’re just trying to destroy the competition,” remarked Shouta. “The both of you are too nice and friendly to understand that’s what they’re coming to do.”

“Don’t be a curmudgeon!” Tensei jabbed his finger at Shouta. “And you’re going to be at the party, Mr. Quidditch Captain, don’t even try to skip out on it!”

“I’m not afraid of benching you and replacing you with Shiretoko,” Shouta threatened.

“You can’t bench him! Shiretoko’s good, but Tensei’s fast, and if you lose, everyone’s going to blame the fact that you put her in the game and not Tensei.” Hizashi gave a pout. “Come on, you won’t even consider? I’ll be there.”

“‘Cause that’s a real game-changer,” Shouta snorted.

Several more minutes of persuading later, Shouta finally agreed to join in on the party, but only if he could be asleep by eleven.

“Don’t eat the pasties. I’m 90% sure someone jinxed them to make people’s tongues catch on fire,” was what Hizashi was greeted by when he pushed open the portrait to get in later that evening.

“I’ll keep that in mind,” Hizashi responded, before searching the crowd for a familiar head of black hair. He spotted Shouta near the staircase, arms crossed and dressed casually without his robes, and made his way towards where the boy stood.

“You don’t look like someone at a party,” Hizashi said by way of greeting, “You look like someone at a funeral.”

“Oh no,” Shouta said dryly, “It’s almost like...I care.”

“Aww, don’t be like that!” Hizashi grinned, before leaning against the staircase with Shouta. “Come on, let’s go dance.”

“There’s no music,” Shouta said.

At that very moment, someone turned on the radio and the smooth warbling of Celestina Warbeck washed over the crowd, which was greeted by a chorus of cheers.

“You were saying?” Hizashi offered his hand. “Come on, it can’t be as bad as fourth year.”

“Yes. Yes, it can.”

Hizashi sighed and retracted his hand, knowing this wasn’t going to work. He’d come, all hyped up in a partying mood, but now it was slowly dissipating. “Are you nervous about tomorrow?”

“I’d be an idiot if I wasn’t,” Shouta snorted. “Ravenclaw makes good strategies, and Nemuri promised she’d score ten times before I’d get to block any of her shots. And she said it in that special voice, too.”

“Yikes.” Hizashi cringed. “Not the special voice. Has Kan been around for his mandatory ‘good luck’ speech yet?”

“Yeah, but he also said Hufflepuff isn’t going to lose this year.” Shouta smirked. “Gryffindor’s not going to lose, either.”

“That’s what I like to hear!” Hizashi said, slinging his arm around Shouta’s shoulders. “Where’s Tensei? I was kinda hoping we’d get to play some pin-the-tail-on-the-banshee.”

Shouta shrugged. The two stood away from most of the party, but Hizashi was just itching to join. He knew Shouta didn’t really like parties, but it was one held to pump everyone up for the match tomorrow. Hizashi held some himself for Slytherin matches, considering he was very good at getting people properly hyped. Except Shouta. Shouta seemed immune to Hizashi’s hyping methods.

Maybe Shouta would be better if he had a drink. He was sure the strongest thing allowed in the castle was a butterbeer, but he wouldn’t put it past anyone to have snuck in some firewhiskey. Hizashi excused himself to cross the room and check out the table where snacks were laid. He gazed down at the options for drinks--two different punch bowls, one of actual punch and the other a sparkling green substance he’d be willing to try under normal circumstances but he was pretty sure he saw someone spit into it earlier.

“I wouldn’t drink that stuff, if I were you,” a voice from behind him said. He turned to see to see Fukukado from Hufflepuff, surrounded by her friends. “I’m pretty sure someone spiked those. Oh, hey, you getting a drink for my dear husband, Aizawa?”

“Yeah,” Hizashi said, squinting suspiciously at the punch bowls. “What else do we have to drink?”

“I brought a case of butterbeer. Oh, but Iida gave this to me and said to give it to Aizawa for his nerves tomorrow!” Fukukado lifted a bottle of what Hizashi assumed to be a Draught of Peace. It was clear, anyways, and it was the only thing he could think of that could help Shouta with his nerves. “He’s a good friend. Oh, here’s the butterbeer, if you want any.”

Hizashi took the bottle from her and got some butterbeer for himself and returned to where Shouta was still standing, making bubbles blow from the tip of his wand with a bored expression.

“Here, for your nerves,” Hizashi offered Shouta the Draught, before using his wand to pop the cap from the butterbeer bottle.

“What’s this?” Shouta frowned, staring at it.

“Fukukado said Tensei gave it to her to give to you for your nerves. Probably a Draught of Peace.” Hizashi took a long gulp from his drink, relishing the taste.

“He talked me into coming but he didn’t bother showing up himself,” Shouta snorted, but there was something a bit appreciative in his eyes. He unscrewed the cap and sniffed at it, before his eyebrows drew together. “It kind of smells like lavender.”

“Lavender helps you relax and sleep, so maybe that’s why,” Hizashi said. Shouta took a long sip from the bottle.

“Tastes like rum mixed with gillywater.”

“Is that what it’s supposed to taste like?”

Shouta shrugged, before taking another sip. Hizashi returned to his butterbeer, scanning the party. A few people were playing a game of Exploding Snap, and the Hufflepuffs who’d shown up were shouting encouraging words at them. Suddenly, a hand grabbed his own, and Hizashi looked over at Shouta in surprise.

“We need to--we need to get out of here,” Shouta said quickly, not looking Hizashi in the face, before turning abruptly and tugging him upstairs. Hizashi followed, bewildered and trying not to spill his butterbeer on himself. He was pushed unceremoniously into Shouta’s dorm, and he spun around to face his friend, a question on the tip of his tongue, but before he could say anything, Shouta’s mouth was on his.

Hizashi nearly reeled back in surprise, dropping his butterbeer, before instinct took over and he kissed back. It was sloppy--Shouta was looking for a place to rest his hands, first sliding them over his chest, placing them on his hips and then reaching up to grasp at Hizashi’s neck, as if unsure what to do. Hizashi stumbled backwards as Shouta pressed forward, trying to kiss harder. They fell back onto someone’s bed, still kissing.

“Shouta--” Hizashi gasped as he pulled away to breathe, but Shouta merely moved in to kiss again, hips pressed flushed against Hizashi’s. Shouta moaned into his mouth, and Hizashi brought a hand up to grip Shouta’s hair.

Shouta pulled away again, and now that he wasn’t kissing Hizashi, he was able to think clearly and he frowned. Not that this wasn’t a dream come true for Hizashi, but it was so out-of-nowhere and unlike Shouta that his concerns overcame his desires, and he pushed Shouta away from him, breathing hard. “Shouta, wait, please--”

“Hizashi,” Shouta panted, staring at him with glazed eyes and blown pupils, moving to pin Hizashi against the bed, “No, no, Hizashi, I--Shit, Hizashi, I love you, I love your voice and I love you and I--”

“Shouta!” Hizashi’s voice raised over his friend’s, his heart pounding in his chest, “Are you okay, you’re acting weird and you’re scaring me and oh my god you aren’t dying are you--”

“I’ve never been better.” Shouta leaned forward, breathing hard, his face so close to Hizashi’s that if he wanted to, he could count every single one of his eyelashes. “I just...Hizashi, I love you. I love your voice, and your hair, and fuck, I just--”

Hizashi tried to think of what could be causing Shouta’s uncharacteristic behavior. What had happened? Had someone jinxed him? But he hadn’t seen anyone with their wands out, everyone was watching someone else place Exploding Snap while he and Shouta drank against the wall--

Suddenly, it all came together in Hizashi’s mind, puzzle pieces falling into place.

Of course.

“Shouta,” Hizashi said, straightening up and placing his hands over the other’s, “Can you come with me?”

“Yes,” Shouta replied immediately, “Of course.”

Hizashi moved to get off the bed and Shouta followed, surprisingly docile. Hizashi was thinking of how to handle this situation--he knew from Thursday’s lesson that those under influence of amorentia became infatuated and obsessed with whoever had made the love potion, and were willing to do whatever the brewer wished. Which meant someone had stolen his vial from the professor’s drawer (whether on purpose or not) and spiked a drink specifically for Shouta.

Even though Fukukado had been the one to give him the bottle, he didn’t think she’d done it. Sure, she loved a good joke, but she never did anything to purposefully humiliate someone, especially if that someone was Shouta. She’d said Tensei had given it to her, but it didn’t make any sense for Tensei to drug Shouta with a love potion, either.

Hizashi shook his head to clear his thoughts. That wasn’t important right now. He needed to go to their potions professor and ask for a cure, because there was no way Shouta would be able to play the match if intoxicated tomorrow, and he’d just be a plain bad friend if he didn’t do so.

Hizashi lead Shouta back out into the common room, Shouta practically and unashamedly hanging off Hizashi’s arm. They exited through the portrait hole, Shouta needing a leg-up due to the potion making him rather clumsy.

“Are we going somewhere...more private?” Shouta asked quietly, and Hizashi glanced at him to see that he was staring at Hizashi expectantly. Hizashi swallowed heavily, before nodding. “Yeah.”

Hopefully, they wouldn’t get in trouble for being out past nine.

Hizashi began to lead Shouta to the dungeons, doing his best not to look at the other boy, who was very clearly staring at him even as they walked. Hizashi wished this was real--that Shouta wanted to kiss him and loved him of his accord and not because of a love potion, and his chest ached a bit for something like that.

Hizashi berated himself. He needed to stop thinking like this right now--that was being selfish on his part. He should be glad he’s friends with Shouta, and to push for anything more than that when Shouta didn’t return his feelings was just an awful thing to do, especially when Shouta was currently under the influence of a love potion.

As they stepped onto a moving staircase, Shouta suddenly pinned Hizashi against the railing, his hands on either side of him and gripping the banister. Shouta leaned in, eyes flickering from Hizashi’s eyes to his mouth.

“Shouta--” Hizashi said, surprised, but Shouta spoke over him.

“I’ve been thinking about you,” Shouta said, words rushed, “I’m always thinking about you. I’ve loved you since fourth year, Hizashi, and I just wanted you to know that. I’ve been thinking about you since the party began. You sound so good when you make noises like when we kissed...”

He swallowed audibly, and Hizashi tried pushing back against Shouta because they needed to go and ask the potions master to make the potion that’ll get Shouta right, and Hizashi was going to go crazy if Shouta kept looking at him like that without actually meaning it and Hizashi was getting aroused and fuck, this was not good.

“Let’s talk about this somewhere else,” Hizashi said as firmly as he could manage, placing his hand against Shouta’s chest. “Okay? And then we can totally make out and do all other sorts of stuff, alright?”

Shouta nodded, before grabbing Hizashi’s hand again. As they began walking again, Hizashi tried not to think about Shouta’s words. It was just the amortentia speaking, right? But amortentia only installed obsession into the drinker, not actual love, and for Shouta to say he loved Hizashi went against the rules of the potion, right?

He was thinking too much into this. Shouta was under the influence, and that’s all there was to it. He needed to stop hoping in a situation like this.

(Bad friend, stupid, not good.)

They finally arrived outside Professor Gilde’s office, and Shouta frowned at him.

“What are we doing here?”

Hizashi ignored him and knocked. A couple of moments later, the door swung open and they were faced with their professor wearing bunny-patterned pajamas and a stern look on his face.

“Professor, sorry to wake you, but Shouta--I think whoever stole the amortentia--”

“I’ve already brewed something to counter it,” Professor Gilde interrupted, looking a bit peeved, “I was anticipating something would happen. Inside, now.”

Hizashi lead Shouta inside, who shot him a look, still with heavy-lidded dark eyes. Hizashi wished Shouta wouldn’t look at him like that right now, especially since they’re in front of one of their teachers.

Professor Gilde turned his back as they sat down, digging through his desk, and instantly Shouta slid his hand onto Hizashi’s thigh, who jerked away. “No, Shouta, don’t. Not yet.”

Shouta merely stared at him, before retracting his hand slowly.

“Aizawa, here,” Gilde said, turning around and holding out a goblet. Shouta frowned at it.

“What’s this?”

“Yamada made it for you.”

Hizashi blinked as Shouta raised his hand instantly to take it, tipping his head back to down the entire goblet. A visible change passed over Shouta when he lowered it--his posture slumped, his fingers loosened from the goblet and his eyes cleared up. His expression went from confusion to one of dawning horror, teeth audibly grinding. He glanced over at Hizashi, eyes wide and brows furrowed, clearly uncomfortable with what he’d done. Hizashi looked away as Professor Gilde took the goblet from Shouta.

“You can go back, now, and if anyone sees you out tell them I gave you permission to be out this late. We’ll talk tomorrow. Good night.”

Shouta got to his feet and left as soon as Professor Gilde finished speaking, Hizashi following as quickly as he could, attempting to come up with the right words to say. What should he say? Should he apologize for allowing Shouta to kiss him? Was Shouta mad at him?

“Shouta!” He called after the boy, who stopped in the middle of the corridor, shoulders stiff. With his back still to Hizashi, Shouta spoke quietly.

“I understand if you need some time away from me.” He sounded as if he was trying to remain impassive, but his voice was very clearly strained. “If it hadn’t been for that potion, I would’ve kept those feelings to myself, but...”

Hizashi froze, dumbfounded. What?

Was he hearing right?

When Hizashi didn’t speak, Shouta bristled visibly and said in a louder voice,

“I’m sorry, Hizashi, I truly am. I never would have--”

“No, wait, Shouta!” Hizashi bounded forward, grabbing Shouta’s arm and spinning the boy around to face him. Shouta stared hard at the ground, his dark hair framing his pale face like a waterfall of ink, expression unreadable. Hizashi’s mind was still reeling a bit, because that almost sounded like an actual, real love confession and--

“Shouta,” Hizashi said, his voice surprisingly stable despite his racing thoughts. “You said you’ve loved me since fourth year?”

“Hizashi--” Shouta started, but Hizashi interrupted.

“Just tell me! Have you?”

Shouta closed his eyes, and said in a resigned manner, “Yes.”

“Me too,” Hizashi said rapidly, and his words only got faster when Shouta opened his eyes to stare at him. “I mean, I’ve actually liked you since third year but god, I--really? You like me? For real?”

There was silence. Then, Shouta started laughing, and not just one of his small snorts--real, actual laughter that made Hizashi’s heart do funny things. Hizashi started laughing too because he always laughed whenever someone else did, and he only stopped when Shouta leaned forward to kiss him. He kissed back contently this time, placing his hands on Shouta’s hips and enjoying the moment.

He was still in shock at the fact that Shouta really did like him, and though maybe the revealing of his feelings would have been better if it happened under better circumstances, he wasn’t going to complain, because Shouta was kissing him and he was kissing him because he wanted to and he wasn’t drugged.

Shouta pulled away, and Hizashi wanted to kiss him again and relish in the taste of Shouta’s mouth but Shouta said,

“Let’s get back to the common room.”

“Shouldn’t I go back to mine?”

Shouta rolled his eyes. “Have you ever had a problem with sleeping in ours before?”

“True,” Hizashi laughed, and they made their way back to the portrait of the Fat Lady. Before they could give the password, however, Tensei stumbled out of one of the spare classrooms, eyes wide and breathing hard.

“Guys--” He said, panicking and waving his hands around wildly, “Do not drink anything anyone gives you, I think someone used a Confundus Charm on me and I gave something to Fukukado and--”

“It’s alright, Tensei,” Hizashi cut him off. “Well, no, not exactly alright, but we’ve got everything figured out and handled.”

“What?” Tensei blinked, his eyes flickering between the two in confusion. “You mean you didn’t drink it?”

“No, I did,” Shouta said, voice sour, “And I’m going to jinx whoever Confunded you.”

“We got the situation handled, though. And guess what, we’re dating, now!” Hizashi suddenly turned to Shouta. “Wait, are we dating?”

Shouta snorted. “Duh.”

“What?” Tensei sounded bewildered, “How did that happen? Like, congrats, guys, you just won me ten Galleons from Nemuri, but how? ”

“Love potion,” Hizashi explained, “Whatever you gave to Fukukado was spiked with the love potion that got stolen--which was mine, apparently--”

“I’m okay now, though. Hizashi took me to Professor Gilde’s.” Shouta visibly cringed. “I’m not looking forward to that conversation tomorrow.”

Tensei gaped at them, before smiling wide, and raising both his hands to deliver them high-fives. “I’m still kinda confused, but good on you, guys! Honestly, I’ve been waiting for this since fourth year--”

“What?” Shouta scowled, but Tensei continued on.

“--and now I’ve got enough money to get Tenya a toy broomstick!”

“And Kayama passes the Quaffle to Hakamata--wait, no, it’s been intercepted by Mizushima--now Kayama’s got it back again, dodges a Bludger from Tsuchikawa, she throws the Quaffle and AIZAWA SAVES IT!” Hizashi’s voice got significantly louder. “By the way, Sho--hem, Aizawa and I are dating now! He’s my boyfriend, and he looks so handsome with his hair in the wind like that, don’t you think? Of course, I’d like to be sitting on his broom with him rather than up here but--”

“Hizashi,” Shouta grit his teeth, but some part of him was a bit pleased at being referred to as ‘my boyfriend’, which Hizashi had made a point to say basically every other sentence. He flew back and forth, carefully guarding the posts and keeping an eye on Tensei, who was flying high above to keep an eye out for the Snitch.

His attention returned to the game to see Mizushima had gotten the Quaffle back and was now speeding towards the Ravenclaw Keeper. They scored, the other team’s Keeper barely missing the bright red ball.

“That makes the score 40-0, now! So yeah, I was thinking first date ideas, maybe Hogsmeade? Anybody know a place? I’ve heard Puddifoot’s good but Sh--Aizawa isn’t really big on frilly stuff, you know? So--”

“Yamada,” came Professor Gilde’s voice, very clearly annoyed, “Commentate on the match, if you would please.”

“Sorry, professor, I just AIZAWA BLOCKS ANOTHER PASS THIS TIME BY RAVENCLAW CHASER HAKAMATA! Anyways, sorry professor.”

When Gryffindor won, Hizashi screamed “MY BOYFRIEND IS SO AWESOME AND COOL” and ran to greet Shouta by leaping into his arms, and Shouta buried his nose in Hizashi’s hair, which smelled like the lavender shampoo he used and his face flushed.

“Get off me,” Shouta grunted, “You’re taller than me and holding you is making my back hurt.”

“Oops,” Hizashi smiled sheepishly, “But you’re strong and man I’ve always wanted to be held by you, and have I ever told you I love your hair and your little freckles and pretty much everything about you?”

“Yeah,” Shouta responded bluntly, “Just two hours ago, in fact.”

“Well, I’m telling you again.”

They kissed, and Shouta tried to calm his racing heart because they’ve kissed several times already but it still made his heart have this annoying fluttery feeling. Okay, it wasn’t that annoying, it was actually kind of nice, but he liked to pretend otherwise.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were dating?!” A voice cried, and they broke away to see Nemuri stomping towards them. “I just lost ten Galleons to Tensei, that fucker!”

Despite her words, she was grinning from ear-to-ear.”Congratulations, for the win and for finally getting together. You’ve got to come by my party later--”

“No,” Shouta immediately answered.

“--relax, it’s not an orgy, despite my wishes, and I’ve already got plans to help you counter Kan’s throws,” Nemuri said smoothly, as if she hadn’t been interrupted. Shouta considered for a moment before sighing and saying,

“Fine.”

“Good,” Nemuri’s smile turned rather lecherous, “You’ll both have to tell me the juicy details later, but I think your team wants to speak to you now.”

Shouta was lifted (begrudgingly) onto Tensei’s shoulders and carried back to the castle, Hizashi following close behind.

(His arms still ached from having to catch Hizashi unexpectedly, but they spent an hour alone in a broom closet that more than made up for it.)
