Jimin could still remember the day Jungkook confessed like it was just yesterday, though it had been two months. He could recall how Jungkook’s behavior had been odd up until the day he’d confessed. He remembered how Jungkook had seemed hostile towards Taehyung and he’d never been able to understand why, but of course, now it all made sense. Jimin should have detected the jealousy but he had been so sure Jungkook would never feel the same way about him and so the thought never crossed his mind. And honestly, Jimin had been to lost in his own feelings for Jungkook to notice the other's own emotional turmoil. But he was happy that the younger had confessed and that they were dating now...though sometimes he questioned it, were they really dating? After all, not much had changed in their relationship besides being able to freely kiss one another. But besides that, hardly anything changed. Jungkook was still the same and so was Jimin. That’s why he was sitting on the bleachers watching Jungkook play basketball.
Jimin watched Jungkook move across the basketball court as if he owned it. In all honesty, the only person on the basketball team that could possibly compete with Jungkook was Yoongi, but the elder wasn’t there today having caught the flu. So it was all up to Jungkook to lead practice today since he was the vice captain. Jungkook was a good leader even if the younger tended to be really shy and reserved. Everyone who knew Jungkook knew that he was talented in many ways and capable of doing almost anything. But Jungkook was also predictable and steady, and Jimin loved that most about him. Though, at the same time, he kind of hated it because it made it feel as if they weren’t in a relationship, seeing as Jungkook hadn’t made any other moves besides kissing.
“Hyung! Ready to go?” Jungkook asked as he approached Jimin with a huge grin and sparkling eyes. Jimin returned the smile and nodded while grabbing his backpack. The two males walked out of the building and headed towards their dorm. Jungkook held Jimin’s hand as they walked in relative silence. They were both enjoying the autumn air and colorful trees that lined the streets of their university. Once they reached their dorm, Jungkook headed off to the bathroom to take a shower, while Jimin decided to prepare something for the two of them to eat.
While Jimin was cooking, Jungkook came into the kitchen and decided to surprise Jimin by going up to him and wrapping his arms around Jimin’s waist, effectively startling Jimin and earning a small squeak of surprise out of him.
“Aish, you’re so mean!” Jimin pouted at Jungkook which only made the younger laugh and kiss him on the cheek.
“Sorry hyung, I just love seeing your reactions,” Jungkook said with a smile and playful eyes. His dark brown hair was still wet from his shower and so it stuck to his forehead and a few droplets fell onto the baby blue towel he had around his neck. Jimin noted that the younger had yet to put on his shirt as all Jungkook currently wore were his shorts. And while Jimin had seen Jungkook practically naked most of his life, he still couldn’t help the way his insides squirmed at the sight of a shirtless Jungkook. But years of practice (and fear of his love being unrequited) had eventually led Jimin to school his emotions so he no longer blushed so easily at the sight. However, Jimin no longer needed to school his emotions, yet found that the habit was already in place and much too hard to break.
“Hmm hmm, you’re still mean,” Jimin replied turning off the stove and then facing Jungkook. He grabbed the towel around the younger’s neck and placed it over Jungkook’s hair as he began to dry it for the younger who closed his eyes and hummed in satisfaction. Jungkook had always liked having Jimin dry his hair for him claiming Jimin would give the best massage while drying his hair. And since Jimin was hopelessly in love with Jungkook (even though Jungkook hadn’t known it at the time) he’d willingly indulged the younger often whenever Jungkook approached him with a towel and wet hair.
“Jiminie hyung?” Jungkook called out softly as Jimin finished drying his hair.
“Yes, Kookie?” Jimin replied.
“Do you really love me?” Jungkook asked in an uncertain tone grabbing a hold of Jimin’s arms and bringing them down.
“Of course I do. Do I not shower you with enough affection to prove it?” Jimin replied with a confused expression. Was Jungkook questioning his love all of a sudden? Or did he just want a confirmation?
“No that’s not it. It’s just...nothing’s changed?” Jungkook stuttered out, his cheeks glowing red. Jimin said nothing as he blinked at the other trying to decipher what he meant. Seeing the confusion written on the elder’s face, Jungkook continued.
“I mean...well like nothing's changed between us?... I mean, not, nothing, since I can kiss you on the lips now instead of just your forehead or cheek...but like...I want more I guess?....No that’s not it...uh...I mean I’d like to go further but...it just seems like...like I have no effect on you...like you still kind of treat me like a little brother?...And we’re supposed to be dating...but I sometimes wonder if we are... cause like you don’t react to me the way I want...no that’s wrong..um...like you aren’t blushing though I’m half naked right now...I mean if I saw you half naked I’d probably blush...but you haven’t even once since we started dating...you don’t even blush when I say cheesy things and...I don’t know what I’m trying to say...I just feel like you might not see me the way I see you...do you get what I mean?” Jungkook said looking at Jimin hopelessly. Jimin just stared at the younger for a few seconds before bursting out into laughter which earned him an angry pout from the younger.
“It’s not funny! I’m being serious!” Jungkook protested, his face turning completely red as he let go of Jimin’s arms.
“S-sorry! I didn’t mean t-to laugh…” Jimin took a deep breath calming himself down before he proceeded. He grabbed one of Jungkook’s hands and brought it up to his chest laying it over his heart.
“Feel that Kookie?” Jimin asked. Jungkook nodded and so Jimin leaned up and kissed Jungkook on the lips. They kissed for a few seconds before Jimin pulled away breathless, Jungkook’s hand still pressed to his chest.
“Now see how my heart rate went up? That’s because of you. Just the thought of us kissing makes my heart rate pick up. And seeing you topless...well let’s just say... the way my heart was beating before? That wasn’t actually my normal heart rate at all….Jungkook you’ve always had an effect on me. Since the day we met back in middle school you’ve had an effect on me” Jimin said recalling their past together.
“Don’t you remember? I used to blush a lot around you, you’d tease me about it sometimes when others mentioned it...back then I thought my feelings were never going to be reciprocated and so I started training myself to not react anymore. That’s why I don’t blush around you anymore, but really, just because I appear calm doesn’t mean I am.” Jimin continued as Jungkook’s looked at him with wide eyes and a happy grin.
“On the contrary, whenever I see you like this or whenever you say something sweet or cheesy or when you do something romantic I turn all mushy inside. My stomach is filled with butterflies whenever I’m around you and I automatically smile at the thought of you. You have always had a tremendous effect on me Kookie. You always will.” Jimin finished leaning in for another sweet kiss.
“Why did I wait so long to confess? Actually, why didn’t you ever confess?” Jungkook asked when the pulled apart for air once again.
“Me? Well, that’s because you used to tease me about liking you so I was too scared to...and as for you...well beats me.” Jimin answered with a shrug.
“Sorry for teasing you...but why would that deter you from confessing?”
“Kookie, I’m not blaming you. You never teased me in such a bad way that it would hurt me or anything...I just got nervous since you teased me, it made me think you didn’t like me in that way.” Jimin replied.
“You still could have tried to confess?”
“Oi, you’d never have confessed if it weren’t for Tae. So don’t judge me for being too afraid as well!... Speaking of which I still need to thank him for that, maybe we should take him with us to the art exhibit on Sunday?” Jimin said with a mischievous smile. Jungkook frowned shaking his head.
“No, I asked to take you there because I wanted it to be a date.” Jungkook pouted.
“Oh is that why? Not because you just didn’t want to go alone for your art project?” Jimin asked with a raised eyebrow. Jungkook gave him a sheepish grin before saying, “Ok, that may have been it too...but still you can’t invite Taehyung! He’d just ruin my mood.”
“Aw please, Kookie? I know you, and once we get to the art exhibit you’ll be so absorbed with all the art there, you’ll ignore me! I’ll just be trailing after you like a lost puppy since I’d understanding nothing about what the works mean.” Jimin pointed out.
“I won’t ignore you, promise!”
“You said that the last time I followed you to an art exhibit.”
“Yea but we weren’t dating back then.” Jungkook protested.
“That was like a few weeks before we started dating.” Jimin countered.
“...still no Taehyung.”
“Why not? I thought you two had become friends now?”
“...We are...but he’s so clingy towards you! I mean he pushed me towards confessing but he still hangs around you and it makes me jealous cause what if he does still like you? And that makes me think about all these stupid scenarios in where he steals you away from me and really I just can’t have that happen cause you’re my life and...I’m going off track so back to the point! No Taehyung.” Jungkook concluded with a stern look which made Jimin giggle.
“Alright, Kookie. I won’t invite Tae this time, but you’re going to have to be okay with me inviting him out to the festival going on next weekend then.” Jimin stated.
“...Fine.” Jungkook relented hugging Jimin close and whispering “But I get to go with you guys too.”
“Of course Kookie. I wouldn’t ever think of leaving you behind.” Jimin responded sinking into Jungkook’s embrace even more.
“You better not. You’re mine and I’m yours so we’re stuck with each other for the rest of our lives.” Jungkook stated with a wide smile and pecked Jimin’s nose before catching his lips.
“Hmm, somehow I don’t think I’d mind that,” Jimin responded in between their kisses.
“Neither do I. I want to spend every moment I have on this earth with you Jiminie.”
“And I you Kookie...you don’t even realize just how much I love you,” Jimin replied as their kisses grew more heated.
“I think I have an idea,” Jungkook replied smirking as he began to nibble at Jimin’s neck.
“Oh do you?...I don’t think you really do...I really have loved you since I met you.” Jimin said as his breathing grew heavy.
“And you think I haven’t?...I’ve loved you for just as long...I just grew complacent with just having you by my side as a friend.” Jungkook responded in between marking hickeys.
“Ahhh~ well Kookie, in that case, why don’t we make a promise?” Jimin said and Jungkook pulled away slightly to look at Jimin with a questioning gaze.
“What promise?” Jungkook asked curiously.
“A promise to get married once we’ve both settled down and found stable jobs since we’ll be graduating next year?” Jimin asked, his cheeks growing a little redder. Jungkook was silent for a few seconds before he smiled and shook his head.
“Nah,” Jungkook replied.
“Oh...is that too soon? Maybe we should just get engaged at that time then?” Jimin asked hesitantly, wondering if maybe the younger didn’t even want to get married...maybe he thought their relationship wouldn’t last that long?
“Oh eager to get married already? Then maybe we should just elope or have a shotgun wedding?” Jungkook joked with a small giggle.
“...As I said earlier, you’re mean.” Jimin said with a sigh and pulled away, officially ending their make out session. He went over to the cupboards to grab plates and set the table.
“Aw hyung, I was kidding...I just never thought about marriage is all...but of course, we can get married if you really want to.” Jungkook said following Jimin around.
“Yea ok,” Jimin responded with a small smile directed at the younger as he grabbed the food and placed an equal amount on each plate.
“...Jimin are you upset?” Jungkook asked sensing the mood change.
“No, not at all Kookie. I’m just hungry, let’s eat?” Jimin suggested sitting down and staring at his food.
“Jimin...I’m sorry for joking, you just caught me off guard.” Jungkook tried to explain.
“I said it’s ok Kookie. It’s fine not to want to get married or whatnot. We can stay the way we are.” Jimin replied taking a bite of his food and not looking up. He knew he was being unreasonable, of course, Jungkook hadn’t thought about marriage. Why would he? Sometimes Jimin forgot that Jungkook was two years younger than him because of the fact Jungkook had skipped two grades and ended up hanging out with people older than him all the time. It made him seem more mature than he really was, and Jimin would often think Jungkook was mature enough to think of things like marriage. It was far off thought for kids Jungkook’s age, even Jimin was thinking about it too early if he was being honest. Besides, there was no guarantee they’d still be dating when they graduated. It was just wishful thinking.
“Ok,...you’re sure you’re not mad?” Jungkook asked again as he took a seat. Jimin just nodded and began talking about his dance recital that was coming up in a couple of weeks. After eating the two of them decided to watch a movie together, eventually falling asleep on the couch. The next morning Jimin got up earlier than Jungkook and cooked breakfast while getting ready for class. He was just about to leave when Jungkook woke up.
“You’re leaving already?” Jungkook asked groggily while rubbing at his eye. His dark brown hair sticking up in odd directions.
“Yea sorry, I need to meet with one of my professors about a project I got a low score on. I was just going to leave you a note.” Jimin explained as he checked the time on his phone.
“Oh ok, see you later?” Jungkook replied and Jimin nodding giving Jungkook a quick kiss before leaving. What he’d said was half true, he did need to talk to his professor but not now. Right now Jimin was going to meet with Jin hyung. Jin hyung was someone Jimin turned to whenever he needed to talk to someone but couldn’t talk to Jungkook. Jin was like the eomma of their group of friends. He met with Jin at the coffee shop and spilled out his rising doubts that had come to the surface thanks to last night.
“I don’t know what to do hyung...it really hurt when he didn’t take me seriously, though it’s perfectly understandable he hadn’t thought about it,” Jimin said, feeling his heart clench in his chest.
“Jimin you need to talk to him about it,” Jin said.
“...But what if he reacts badly. He did just turn twenty, normal twenty-year-olds don’t think of marriage...but I was hoping he at least wanted to...” Jimin stated sadly.
“Jungkook loves you, Jimin. We all know it, yes maybe he never thought about marriage, but as you said he is only twenty. But if it bothers you, then you should tell him. Ask him if he’s in it for the long run or just while its new. Though I can’t imagine Jungkook only wants a temporary relationship with you, he is completely whipped for you, just as you are him.” Jin reassured, patting Jimin’s blond hair. Jimin just sighed and agreed to talk to Jungkook about it.
But he didn’t, Jimin avoided the topic and anything related to it for the course of the next few days until it was the weekend. He had also sort of been avoiding Jungkook, not much, but it was enough for the younger to notice. That’s why on Saturday, Jungkook cornered Jimin in the elder’s bedroom. Usually, Jimin slept with Jungkook but he had decided to sleep by himself yesterday night.
“Kookie, please move, I need to go make breakfast,” Jimin said not looking at the younger and trying push past him.
“No, we need to talk first,” Jungkook said grabbing a hold of Jimin’s wrist and pulling him towards the bed.
“What do we need to talk about? Can’t we do it over breakfast?” Jimin asked.
“You didn’t sleep with me last night hyung,” Jungkook said pushing Jimin onto the bed gently and then sitting on his lap to keep the elder from escaping while staring at Jimin intently.
“Sorry, I was tired from dance practice and just fell asleep,” Jimin said making up an excuse.
“I know it’s more than that Jimin...this is about earlier this week when you asked me to promise to marry you isn’t it?” Jungkook asked. Jimin stayed silent, he didn’t want to admit it but he couldn’t bring himself to deny it either.
“I’m really sorry about it hyung. I really hadn't thought about it before an-”
“It’s alright Jungkook. I know you didn’t, you’re young, why would you be thinking about it.” Jimin cut in. And before Jungkook could speak Jimin began talking again, “I was just being stupid thinking we’d last forever and get married. But really how can I think that? Most college relationships don’t exactly last that long you know? Especially the first one. It’s estimated almost 80% of college students will have at least three romantic relationships while in college, so what are the chances we’d be the small 20% who stayed together? Especially considering we’re each other's firsts? That’s so unlikely, right? I was just being delusional and thinking that maybe it was possible. I was getting ahead of myself cause I thought we were both in it for the long run, but maybe we’re not? Maybe we’ll end up having a falling out. After all, why would you think of staying with me forever? So yea, its ok, I was just over thinking and being selfish and stu-”
And then Jungkook was cutting him off with a harsh kiss. Jimin tried to pull back as a few tears slipped from his eyes without him knowing he had been tearing up during his long rant. Jungkook placed his hand behind Jimin’s head and didn’t release Jimin’s lips. Jimin tried to resist but ended up giving in, kissing the younger back after only a few seconds.
When they pulled apart for air, Jimin was crying much more. Jungkook swiped at the tears as he said, “You didn’t let me finish hyung. You should let me finish before interrupting me.” Jungkook leaned forward and kissed both of Jimin’s teary eyes before he started speaking again.
“I was going to say that I hadn’t thought about marriage before, but since you brought it up...I couldn’t stop thinking about it. When we were younger, marriage always seemed like the end goal, like once I got married I would no longer be free to do what I want, because I saw my mom and dad having to sacrifice some of their dreams because they were married...And I didn’t want to be like that...but now that I’m older, well I no longer see it that way, now that I’ve actually thought about it. Even though my parents would have to sacrifice some things they were happy. And thinking about how much they love each other I thought about us. And I thought about how much I love you, how long I’ve been pining after you...I couldn’t imagine a future where you weren’t by my side. And that made marriage all the more appealing because it's like a promise right? A promise that we’ll stay together forever? And that sounds really really nice. I’d like that.” Jungkook said a fond smile spreading over his features as he leaned in and kissed the elder’s lips again.
“So Jimin, if you still want to I’d love to get married...but not when we’ve both settled into a career,” Jungkook said.
“Then when do you want to get married?” Jimin asked confused.
“When we graduate. Let’s get married the day after graduation.” Jungkook said with a blissful smile and shining eyes. Jimin was silent for a few seconds before he smiled as well.
“Alright.” He agreed with a giggle happy that it wasn’t just him after all who wanted to get married.
“Really?” Jungkook asked with an even wider smile.
“Yes. The day after graduation we’ll get married.” Jimin stated, nodding his head.
“Promise,” Jungkook said weaving his arms around Jimin’s neck again.
“Promise,” Jimin replied with an eye smile. Jungkook chuckled and hugged Jimin tightly peppering his face with kisses.
“I really love you Jimin,” Jungkook said.
“And I you Kookie. I love you a lot Jungkook.” Jimin replied before they kissed again. Both content in the idea that they'd be married in a years time and looking forward to their future together.
