Work Text:

Seokjin sighed as he sat on his seat behind the desk, bored. His chin was resting on his hand as he moved a pencil around, thinking about how much he hated slow days.

He looked up when he heard footsteps entering and was suprised to see a guy around his age enter. Kids, parents, and the elderly were known to enter the library. Not twenty year old hot looking males.

Seokjin raised his eyebrow at how nervous the other looked, trying to avoid contact with him as if his life depended. Seokjin kind of found it amusing at how shaky the man seemed of him.

"Just saying, I don't bite." Seokjin mocked, deciding to have a little fun. The man stopped and looked up, face resembling a deer caught by a headlight.

Seokjin looked down and saw the other man was heading to the return box.

"I could check that in for you right now. I have nothing to do." Seokjin said with a smile, his hand extending out for the book.

"Um...thanks." The man shuffled to him nervously, surrendering the book. Seokjin was suspicious as the man in front of him looked like he was thinking to make a run for it now.

Seokjin decided to ignore it and instead went to scan the book. The man waited patiently with his palms sweating making Seokjin smile at him reassuringly until the computer made an odd sound. That's weird, Seokjin thought.

"Hey, what's your name?" Seokjin decided to ask while still clicking on several buttons.

The man heavily hesitated before he finally mumbled out, "K-Kim Namjoon."

Seokjin started to frown and that basically triggered the other.

"Namjoon I- "

"Okay I swear I can explain why the book is two years overdue!" Namjoon interrupted the other. Seokjin stopped and rose his eyebrow. This was to be interesting.

Seokjin didn't even have time to object before the other started rambling, "Okay so I really liked that book. It's actually one of my favorite books ever, and that's saying a lot from me." He lightly smiled before continuing, "So anyways, I had just entered college so I didn't have time to read it. I swear I was going to return the book once I had time to finish it but then I sort of...lost the book."

Seokjin gave an amused smile again, nodding along. He knew there was no way he was going to stop this boy from rambling so instead he had let go of the computer and supported his chin on his hand again. He was intrigued with this man and the story.

"It's really hard to move in all your stuff into a dorm, you know. So after I moved in, I may have forgot completely about the book until I remembered I had to change the address on my library card. So then, I swear to god, I looked everywhere for it but I couldn't find it. Turned out it had stayed back at my parents house so, um, yeah. I had to go all the way back to get it a few days ago. But...at least I found the book, right?" Namjoon gave a sheepish look. Seokjin rose his eyebrows again with his amused face.

"Wow. That's a hell of a story Namjoon. So was the ending worth all of this trouble?" Seokjin smiled. And then he grinned. He had never thought he had seen someone's face turn red so fast.

"Um...yeah...I never got to finish the book." He mumbled. That sent Seokjin into a fit of laughter.

"So you mean to tell me, you had two years with this book and you never even finished it? I mean, might as complete it first before turning it in. You're already more than 730 days overdue!" Seokjin was having fun with this. Namjoon on the other hand wanted to die and melt into a puddle but at least this went better than expected. He rather have this than getting yelled at any other day.

"So, um, like, do I have to pay like a thousand dollars now for overdue?" Namjoon rubbed his neck sheepishly. Seokjin finally ceased his laughter and went back to his job.

"Well, if you must know. You don't have to pay anything." Namjoon's eyes widened, "Apparently that book is too old now no one reads it anymore so we don't have it in shelf anymore. That's what I was going to tell you first before you started telling your long story. I had no idea you even had the book for two years since the computer couldn't scan it." Seokjin laughed again.

Meanwhile, Namjoon's face turned into a tomato. He felt so embarrassed for going on and on about his excuse to the librarian who didn't even know what he was talking about.

"Well, I guess to make you feel better, you could keep the book." Seokjin brought Namjoon out of his thoughts.

"Really?" Namjoon asked suprised. Seokjin shrugged, "We don't need it." Then he grinned, "And when you finish it, tell me how it ends."

Namjoon smiled. The librarian had actually made his day. "Thanks and I will- " He looked down at the other's name tag, "Seokjin hyung."

After that library visit, Namjoon would return every so often, sometimes for books and sometimes just to see the other. Just saying, Seokjin loved his slow days now.
